Secular Coalition Announces 2014 Lobby Day

Rep. Jerrold Nadler at the 2013 lobby day.

The Secular Coalition for America has announced the dates for its 2014 Lobby Day and Policy Conference this summer, June 12th-14th. Last year’s event featured actual in-person addresses by actual, real-life officeholders, Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) and Sen. Tom Harkin (D-IA), who for whatever reason were unafraid of getting atheist cooties.

Says the SCA:

SCA’s annual Lobby Day and Policy Conference will include lobbying training, scheduled lobbying visits with the offices of legislators on Capitol Hill, and a Policy Conference, featuring top thought-leaders and decision makers on the issues most important to secular minded Americans.

That means panels and workshops, as well as face-to-face lobbying with lawmakers and their staffs on Capitol Hill.

In a new twist, SCA is promoting this event as a direct benefit to the coalition’s member organizations, writing in an email:

This year’s event is expected to be the best yet–but it’s not just SCA’s lobby day, it’s YOUR organization’s too. What exactly do we mean by that? As a service to our organizations, this year we will be lobbying on the many issues of our member organizations, as you inform us of your top concerns.

The schedule is online now, and, importantly, you must register by December 31, 2013 in order to get early bird rates: $25 for students and $75 for everybody else.

… and Sen. Tom Harkin (D-IA), who for whatever reason were unafraid of getting atheist cooties.

Probably because he has already announced he is not running for reelection after his term runs out in 2014.
All the same, a good senator other than his backing of alternative medicine.
