Why the Moon Landing COULDN’T Have Been Faked is from the incredibly fun and informative Tru TV show Adam Ruins Everything. Here we have comedian Adam Conover explain to his TV girlfriend why the moon landing wasn’t a hoax.
(Does that mean the hoax is a hoax?)
I don’t know about you, but I’ve had romantic relationships where the other person has, um, interesting (wacky, irrational, not based in reality, etc.) beliefs about the world.
And most of the time I never directly confront those beliefs. If 98% of the magic between the two of us is working, then the 2% of stuff like tarot cards are real can be dealt with in an indirect way.
Please allow me to qualify what I mean when I say indirect way. I’m not passive aggressively attacking the wacky belief. Rather, I state the basic tenets of how reality works in everyday conversation. In the course of any particular day I can easily find myself saying things like:
- Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.
- Feelings are important, but they aren’t going to tell you how change a tire.
- It’s definitely possible. It’s definitely not probable.
