Cruz Crap-Fest Part 2: The Cruzpocalypse

It took a few days to get the bad taste out of my mouth from my last trip to Cruzville, but there is more stuff in the issues section of his campaign website that I want to discuss.5. Support for Israel. Cruz talks about full, unequivocal support for Israel and it’s policies and makes clear his anti-Palestinian stance. But what he doesn’t report is the religious foundation behind his support for Israel. Cruz and his ilk believe in bolstering Israel not because they care about Israel or Jews b … [Read more...]

A Cruz crap-fest…..

The presidential primary season is firmly engaged with the completion of the Iowa caucuses two nights ago and so far, it’s proven to be a victorious night for the right leaning nut jobs. For those who missed it (although I don’t see how), Donald Trump found himself firmly beaten by Ted Cruz, whose evangelical base of paranoid nut jobs apparently came out in force.I admit, I’ve been somewhat ignoring Ted Cruz because I’ve been distracted by the outrageous traveling clown-car show that is the D … [Read more...]

Anyone who has spent time perusing the comment sections of online articles has seen the verbal sparring matches between secularists and theocrats. Veterans and the militia “movement”…

In the last few days, there have been significant developments towards ending the militia wildlife refuge theft in Oregon. Several militia members have been arrested and at least one is confirmed killed. A determined handful, minus anything resembling leadership, remain defiant at the refuge at the time of this writing although there has been some whining about how they would leave if they wouldn't be arrested. However, they apparently don't believe they can leave without being arrested which is … [Read more...]

Atheist Voters – Our Votes Count!

As we continue the long, hard slog through this year’s election cycle, the writers on this blog are going to get more involved in writing about election issues that affect us as atheist voters. For example, some of the issues that directly affect us are things like reproductive health, equality, tax policies, the spread of faith-based initiatives, and so forth. As a good place to start, I would like to make you aware of the Atheist Voter website. Here you can find a ton of resources, including t … [Read more...]

Eat a cookie, support abortions (or more from the WTF files…)

girl scouts

I don’t know if boycotting Girl Scout cookies on the basis of the Girl Scout’s perceived (and fictional) relationship with Planned Parenthood is still a thing for 2016 but I know through at least 2014, there were several Texas anti-abortion groups that were organizing these boycotts. Recently, my attention was drawn (or redrawn) to this issue by the circulation this year of a Facebook meme urging the boycott but as far as I know, these boycotts have never gathered much attention or caused much ha … [Read more...]

A Mini-Manifesto for 2016

A 2016 CE Mini-Manifesto? Ed BucknerI’ve had a variety of online discussions of late that make it clear to me that many, many Americans are still confused or worse about what people like me mean when we say we’re atheists or that we think they’re mistaken about Christmas, this being a “Christian nation” or other matters. Some of this confusion seems to me to be pernicious and intentional, based on a dogged determination to define us, however incorrectly, in a way that allows our in … [Read more...]
