A Christian Privilege Thought Exercise

Christian (and Other Theistic) Rights and Privileges—2016 EditionBy Ed BucknerAfter a few postings back and forth on another site—Yabberz—one of my interlocutors (who goes by the name Rache511) posted the following questions/comments to me. She was far more courteous than some who argue with me and she graciously consented to my using her post here. I recommend Yabberz and that you read posts by Rache511 if you visit. I’ll send a link to this to her and other Yabberz folks, who may want t … [Read more...]

The Republican Revolution

By Chris AllenBernie Sanders is calling for a revolution among Democrats to solve the problems of income disparity and corporate domination of government, but another significant revolution has just occurred in the Republican party. Donald Trump, in defeating all 16 of his rival candidates for president, has split the Republicans between the old conservative establishment and his new growing populist base. The conservative establishment has long depended on wedge issue politics to divide … [Read more...]

Unmasking the Myth of the Mythical Jesus, Continued..

Speaking FRANK-ly About Jesus, Critique of alleged evidence of the historicity of Jesus of Nazareth.PART  BFrank Zindler’s blog dedicated to the thesis that Jesus of Nazareth never existed (part 10). Lies: So short in stating, so long in negating! Readers will recall that I have been temporarily diverted from my plan to examine all the so-called evidence for an historical Jesus by the appearance of an “anxiousbench” blog written by one Philip Jenkins. His blog was titled “The My … [Read more...]

Radicals and Rights

There is much anxiety in the news today about the threat posed by radicals, especially radical Islamists. The book "Rules for Radicals" by Saul Alinsky is blamed for discord, with the charge that it has been used by revolutionaries around the globe to change or overthrow existing governments. Radicals are generally thought to be suspicious trouble makers. It's a bum rap.Historically radical doesn't necessarily mean bad. The word simply means favoring fundamental change. Galileo, Copernicus … [Read more...]

It is his contention that without this superpower, she would not otherwise be a viable presidential candidate.I can only assume deployment of the "women card" is a superpower available to all women, but what exactly is the nature of this superpower?  Does it keep women from being sexually … [Read more...]

Bathroom Battles and Potty Politics

Last night, I had a chance to talk with a couple of folks from North Carolina about the anti-trans bathroom policies in that state. They were complaining about what they described as unfair treatment by the businesses and entertainers that elected to pull their economic activities away from North Carolina and claimed their state was being "misunderstood". They said all the state wanted to do was to make sure that when women go into a women's bathroom, the only other people in there are women. … [Read more...]

The Religious Right’s Bathroom Safety Plan

The issue of trans bathroom equality has been a hot topic lately with states like North Carolina setting the standard for the right wing parade of nonsense about trans people.  The basis for demanding all persons use bathrooms that correspond with the gender on their birth certificates is the notion that without such a law, men in dresses will not only have unfettered access to the women’s restroom, they will act on that supposed freedom.Their intent is to punish the tiny segment of the po … [Read more...]
