Quoting Quiverfull: Michelle Duggar’s Baby Holocaust?

Michelle Duggar of TLC’s Duggar Family in The Hollywood Gossip

The conservative Christian star of the hit TLC show 19 Kids and Counting told a pro-life crowd in Austin that she is against abortion, to put it mildly.

Flanked by son Josh Duggar of the Family Research Council, she likened abortion to Hitler’s attempted eradication of the Jews in World War II.

She said that elected officials who are pro-choice need to be replaced.

“If those who are voted into office do not support life, then they need to be replaced by those who do,” she said, the San Antonio Express reported.

The Duggars are no strangers to politics. In the 2012 election, they campaigned for Rick Santorum due to his “pro-life and pro-family stance.”

Quoted because of the increasing tendency of QF to throw around references to Hitler and the Nazis any time they encounter something that runs opposite their beliefs, not because the subject is abortion. Let’s keep any thoughts on abortion posted in the comments civil and respectful please.

I certainly don’t begrudge success. However, when you are worth millions of dollars and have an army of people to solve your problems that is an easy stance to take. With limited financial resources, potential health problems that may be past on to the child and a lack of family support making the decision to add to your family is much more difficult. The irony of the entire situation is the easiest way to prevent abortion is birth control.

I shudder to think what the nation would look like if it’s government was staffed with people who agreed with Michelle.
No such thing as birth control, no abortions, abstinence only education, not very much healthcare (natural medicine is better, obviously), funding for homeschooling parents…oh goodness. I think I’m scaring myself.

    You’re scaring me too! O_o

Abstinence only education? NO education. Repress and repress.
Not much healthcare and natural medicine? No. Pray.
It IS scary. It’s good to be scared. Means you know what to fight.

She needs to shut the hell up. Her views are based on bringing as many little beings into this world as her womb could have. The last one almost killed her and that kid was in PICU for a long time with long term issues. Plus they make the older kids care for the babies. Nothing wrong with helping but rearing is another thing. UGH!

Michelle Duggar is allowed to have her opinions and state them publicly. And I’m also allowed to say that I think she is an idiot.

If Mrs. Duggar is so pro family, then she should be thrilled that DOMA was struck down, allowing sex sex couple to enjoy all the legal benefits that opposite sex couples do.

Since she’s so pro-life, she must absolutely love the Affordable Care Act’s goal of allowing more people to get the health care they need. The rule about copay free birth control, which prevents unwanted pregnancies and thus abortions, must fill her heart with happiness.

The Duggars’ visit to Austin was such a publicity stunt (I was at the capitol that day protesting on the “other” side). The rhetoric was inflammatory; not only with her Holocaust remarks, but her good buddy Mike Huckabee also stated that anyone who opposed the abortion bill was a “tool of satan.” Oh goody, I always wanted to be a tool of satan when I grew up :)

I would also refer Ms. Duggar to the words of Elie Wielel, who has experienced an *actual* Holocaust, in an interview in the Spring 1991 issue of On The Issues magazine (www.ontheissuesmagazine.com/1991spring/Spring1991_1.php), in which Mr. Wiesel expresses frustration with the comparison and states, “It is a blasphemy to reduce a tragedy of such monumental proportions [the Holocaust] to this human tragedy [abortion].”

    So, Wiesel 1, Duggars 0.

My grandparents lived in Eastern Europe and witnessed Hitler and the Nazis first hand and the stories they’ve told me are horrible and epic and worth of our awe and respect not as tools in some stupid political debate one-upsmanship. Every time I hear the Nazi/Hitler comparison it is an insult to them and to everyone else who died, or was displaced or suffered in very horrible and real ways. People really need to shut up with the Hitler comparisons unless they’re talking about actual world war or genocide, it is extremely disrespectful and makes one look like a heartless moron.

Without the TV show they’d just be another quiverfull family living in a too small house, unable to pay the bills, and still going to a church so they could get charity.

  • Baby_Raptor

Seriously…Gotta love how these ever-so-Godly men and women obey the commands given to them to obey the government God put over them.

RoevWade is the law of the land. Don’t like it? Don’t have an abortion. You don’t get to undermine my rights because you’re dumb enough to allow feelings to over-ride your brain.

Actually her last one died in utero. It was the previous one that nearly killed her and was born severely premature. I don’t blame the babies, because they are totally innocent and the victims here. I DO blame the parents who are such publicity hogs and are using their children as their living.

  • Semipermeable

Equating pro-choice politicians with nazis is an old argument. The older gentleman who stages one man antichoice demonstrations at my alma meter had a sign about democrats being nazis, goss posters with a fake aborted fetus and a picture of a mass grave of holocost victims, and other lovely propaganda.

It honestly doesn’t make sense as there are no meaningful similarities, and exploits the victims of the Holocaust for their own political ends.

Michelle Duggar is reading the script on this one. Nothing surprising really.

  • Semipermeable

Yes, they are free to make their own choices, but they and their children will have to live with them.

Birth control literally saves lives and has given me a whole world of opportunity and personal choice. I am terrified of people like this gaining political power and keeping it away from people who want it, or feeding lies and misinformation to people who could benefit from it.
