Courting a Stranger

courtship

by Samantha cross posted from her blog Defeating the DragonsThis week, the Duggars announced that their daughter, Jessa, had begun a “courtship” with Ben Seewald. News articles have been floating around in my facebook feed about this, and as I read a few of them . . . my heart sank. Many people are mocking the family, Jessa, Ben, her parents, for how they’ve chosen to handle this. I can’t get behind the mocking. All I can feel right now is compassion for Jessa and Ben. It’s an emotion they might dismiss as completely unwarranted– from all appearances, they’re blissfully happy, and this courtship is what they’ve always envisioned for themselves. I don’t know about Ben, but everything I’ve … [Read more...]

They believed in the flood and that god chose one special family to be saved, because that family followed god more closely than other people and this … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: What is ‘Courting’?

Quotes1-300x250

Here's Ma and Pa Duggar's explanation of what Courtship is.by Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar from People Magazine and ABC News. Jim Bob explains: "Courting is getting to know each other in a group setting, both families spending time together and the couple setting goals together to determine if they are meant to marry. With dating, a couple will often pair off alone and that sometimes leads to a more physical relationship." … [Read more...]

...how linking To Train Up a Child to the death of Hana Grace Williams is the same as Hitler's Big Lie.by Debi Pearl from No Greater Joy Ministries -   A Call to Stand Hitler’s propagandists used one of Satan’s choice tools to pull off the biggest crime toward mankind in the history of the world. They used a lie. They taught that if you tell a lie and keep repeating it enough, people will eventually come to believe it. And when they believe—truly believe—it will turn them into activists who will bring it to pass. … [Read more...]

The Intellectual Honesty of Betrothal

betrothal

by The GraduateThe Intellectual Honesty of BetrothalRecently, a lot of news has been made about the betrothal announcement between Joshua Ohlman and Laura Camp, who became “betrothed” or engaged at their parents’ wishes after two hours of knowing each other.   Vaughn Ohlman runs “True Love Doesn’t Wait,” a website dedicated to advocating early marriage with no involvement on the part of those actually to be married, save signing rather long “marriage” contracts. If there is one thing I must grant to Vaughn, it’s this:  He at least accepts the logical conclusions of his beliefs, whereas Vision Forum, ATI, and others, try to soften the inevitable conclusions of where their worldvie … [Read more...]

Sunday Shout Out Replies: How Quick is Too Quick?

Original question: Is it better to take more time than a few hours to decide if this is the person you are willing to spend the rest of your life with?AnswersAmarantha: Good grief. My husband and I have already spent more time than that picking out paint colors for our new house. 2 hours? Oi.aletha: I think the situation would be slightly less absurd if the betrothed had been given the tools necessary to be individual people. It seems scary to me that 2 people who have never been out of their parents house, never really experienced life, and never really had the opportunity to think for themselves- are going to be thrown together and expected to have a perfect … [Read more...]

You Can Fall in Lust But Not Love?

Snapshot_20130808_6

by Calulu cross posted from her blog True Love Doesn't RapeVaughn Ohlman's latest scripture limbo playing fast and loose involves braying that it's not possible to 'fall' in love. Why? Well, because falling is mentioned in the Bible as a negative or passive word according to the few scriptures he managed to pull up and glom together to support his point.Hey, join in that FUN game, grab some scriptures and claim they mean all sorts of things it's likely they … [Read more...]
