Quoting Quiverfull: Part 3 – Michael Pearl’s Parenting Methods In Action?

by Michael Pearl from No Greater Joy - Child Training Marathon Revisited and UpdatedEditor's note: So now we've had Michael saying you should stop every two minutes to spank your child for crying while you are driving down the road. Sounds like the most miserable car ride you could experience this side of explosive diarrhea and swarms of biting fleas invading the car.  And spank and spank and spank and spank and don't you cry while I'm spanking you for crying...how is this not child abuse? … [Read more...]

Ex-Homeschooler Fashion

by Latebloomer cross posted from her blog Past Tense, Present ProgressiveAs a former fundamentalist homeschooled kid, one of many aspects of life that I've had to do a lot of catch up in is fashion.  I grew up choosing clothing based solely on modesty, which in my circles meant that I was shopping in clothing sections meant for the elderly and basically wearing fabric sacks.  Often, I had to make things for myself when even the grandmotherly clothing options failed me.  Everything I wore was at least 4 sizes too big and several inches too short, and I had no idea about choosing colors that complemented my skin tone, no idea about hair, no idea about makeup, no idea about skin and nail ca … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Part 2 – Michael Pearl’s Parenting Methods In Action?

by Michael Pearl from No Greater Joy - Child Training Marathon Revisited and UpdatedEditor's Note: This is child abuse, plain and simple, not discipline. We've posted this story before here at NLQ but it bears repeating. Beating a child for crying is cruel punishment and should be illegal! This is a perfect example of the poisonous methods that Michael Pearl advocates to keep children broken and performing like little emotionless robots. Granted, the mother should never let a child ride on her lap no matter how long or loudly he cries for this because it's simply too unsafe. There are also concerns about the father stopping the car to spank the child, what is this doing to his … [Read more...]

NLQ Question of the Week: Why is Popular Culture Always Deemed ‘Demonic’?

This is a new series we have started running on Thursdays. Examining some of the questions involving long held Quiverfull theology and life.In my online readings this week I ran across an article in the Christian Post where a parent is asking for advice concerning their teenager's reading choices. The child came home with the first book in the immensely popular "Game of Thrones" series. The parents were unhappy he was being exposed to 'inappropriate' content. Here's what the writers at the Christian Post had to say about allowing anyone, much less teenagers, to read the GoT series: … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Part 1 – Michael Pearl’s Parenting Methods In Action?

by Michael Pearl from No Greater Joy - Child Training Marathon Revisited and UpdatedEditor's note: Is it ever right to call a child "Knuckle Head" even if they are as stubborn as a mule? In this bit Michael and Debi Pearl are in the home of a family that were having problems consistently applying the ideas of their child training manual "To Train Up A Child" You will notice that one of the pieces of advice is to 'switch' your child (translation: beat) for a bad attitude. … [Read more...]

News: Raping For Jesus Because Bible

News story came out of Florida in which a man and his wife sexually abused an orphaned girl living in their home from the time she was 13 until 18 years old. Their justification? The Bible. Raping for Jesus.Turns out that the couple, Rob and Marie Johnnson, follow many of the same views as guys like Biblical Gender Roles from the Old Testament that allows multiple 'wives' and believes there is no such thing as marital rape. Thankfully, the law doesn't agree with them or BGR. They've been arrested. … [Read more...]

“I Am Oswin Oswald. I Fought The Daleks And I Am Human. Remember Me.”

by Nora Woodhouse cross posted from her blog A Heart Like MineWhen dealing with FOO (family of origin) that is dysfunctional; any encounter can feel like you have stepped into a strange world in which you've encountered Daleks and they promptly set about their agenda of exterminating you. In real life i is not an encounter with physical harm (though sometimes) but one where your spirit gets exterminated even when you put up a good fight. And just like with the Daleks a dysfunctional FOO will try to get at you anyway they can, whether it's "extermination" or like with Oswin Oswald- assimilation. Either way you feel like you lose pieces of yourself and have gotten mired in toxic muck. It … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Part 2 – A Woman’s Submission Determines Her Husband’s Success?

by Lori Alexander of Always Learning - Are You Preventing Your Husband's Success?Editor's note: I'm afraid this isn't any better than yesterday's bit. She's still venturing into legal territory she has no business in. You cannot refuse to hire someone merely based on how their marriage appears to you from the outside. Interviewing people who know the family is pretty extreme and invasive. They might check the applicant's social media accounts, but not everyone in the family. She claims this is what large corporations does. No, no they do not. They may run psychological testing, such as a personality test to determine your honesty levels or to make sure you are emotionally stable. Some … [Read more...]
