Quoting Quiverfull: Part 1 – Children Are Foolish?

by Debi Pearl from No Greater Joy Magazine - Foolishness or WisdomEditor's note: Jaw dropped reading this first paragraph. Debi's calling kids names again, this time the child that needs to be treated with a little loving care is suddenly the 'whining sissy'?  This piece is so full of name calling, blaming and shaming that I'm breaking it into parts for NLQ. Isn't fooling around doing the things Debi describes something all children do sometimes and a normal part of childhood play? When did it become a sin to be a normal child? … [Read more...]

Answering “Preparing To Be A Help Meet” – Does An Immodest Culture Allow For Less Modesty?

Another installment of giving better answers to the questions asked at Debi Pearl’s site message board for the book ‘Preparing To Be A Help Meet’. Many young ladies ask questions on all sorts of different subjects brought up by the book. There was just one big problem, many of the answers stray into either the outright bad and emotionally unhealthy to dangerous. Yes, typical Debi Pearl borderline abusive. Here’s what we’re going to be doing here at NLQ. Every week, once or twice a week, I’ll be posting up one of the questions from the message board and ask you, our readers, to answer that poor soul’s question in a way that is logical, rational and the best possible solution, in other words 18 … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Are Women in Law Enforcement Wrong?

by John Piper from Ask Pastor John at Desiring God - Should Women Be Police Officers?Editor's note: He never really answers the defining question. Instead he tells the same tale he did a few weeks earlier about women civil engineers and direct/indirect command so I left out that part since it's an almost word for word exact same thing he already said. Instead here's his definitions of manhood and womanhood as they are in the home and workplace. It's still confusing, sounding like he's ready to say women should not be officers of the law but waffling around it instead of honestly saying what he thinks. What do you think? … [Read more...]

News: Josh Duggar in Rehab – Vyckie Garrison in People Magazine

TMZ is reporting that Josh Duggar has now gone away into a long term rehab in order to try and deal with his issues. No word where or if it is a legitimate counseling facility or if it's some gimcrack fundamentalist Christian 'do construction work while you repent place.'Also Anna Duggar will receive counseling. Again, no word on if this is real and useful counseling or shame and blame based Bill Gothard style counseling that does more harm than good. Will update this page as more news arrives. … [Read more...]

News: Jim Bob Duggar – Petty Tyrant?

Remember last  night when I noted that the the Duggar insiders, the always quoted 'unnamed insiders' that make up the back bone of every Duggar story, have been suspiciously silent in the wake of Josh's newest scandal. They are baackk.... they and People magazine have turned ugly on the Duggars. I guess that's what happens when you refuse a People magazine interview. Which the Duggars did a few weeks back, meaning that People Magazine's Duggar update that came out the same day as the news of Josh's Ashley Madison account was a big embarrassment. A misstep that apparently People hasn't forgotten. … [Read more...]

As an Unbeliever, Is it Possible to Have Christian Family and Friends?

by Bruce Gerencser cross posted from his blog The Life and Times of Bruce GerencserMany of the readers of this blog are former Evangelical Christians. Some readers find themselves somewhere between faith and faithless, while others label themselves as spiritual, pagan, agnostic, or atheist. One thing is for certain, many of us are far away from the Evangelical church we once called home. … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Spanking Is One Of The First Resorts?

by Michael Pearl from No Greater Joy Magazine - Spank as a Last ResortEditor's note: So there was no August version of NGJ magazine, they went straight to Sept/Oct. The passage below has the explanations of the types of rebellious stubborn children and the provoking questions you should ask before wailing on them with a plumbing line. Wonder which interviewer Michael is throwing serious shade at by calling them a 'media agitator'?  There needs to be more 'media agitators' exposing the harmful child discipline ideas of the Pearls. Roaches hate it when the lights come on. … [Read more...]

News: One of Josh Duggar’s Lovers Speaks Out

The porn star on Josh Duggar's fake Joe Smithson Face Book account has started to talk.  From an 'unnamed source' claiming to be friends with web cam girl and adult entertainer Danica Dillon. From Radar Online: … [Read more...]

“Pay Now, Play Later”

by Ellen cross posted from her blog When Church HurtsWe heard this quote often at our former church:“Pay now, play later.  Play now, pay later.”One of the most impressive things we noticed when we first began attending our former church was that the senior pastor appeared to be very “servant hearted.”  Unlike the majority of churches that have a reserved spot for the pastor right next to the building, he would park at the far end of the parking lot so that others could park closer.  After services on Sunday, he would return all of his glasses (he usually had three or four glasses of water collected under his chair) to the kitchen and he would go into the restrooms and collect the … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Judgmentalist Is Good If You Are Judging Sin?

by J. Matt Barber from Renew America.com - Adulterers, 'Your sin will find you out'Editor's note: One thing you can count on with squishy nasty things happen in the world of fundamentalist Christianity, there will be all sorts of interesting judgmentalism, sometimes even mixed with forgiveness or calls to forgive.  So it's a-okay to judge someone because God has already judged their sin? More moral limbo in the wake of the Ashley Madison data dump. Did you see that the other prominent Christian caught in the scandal was forcibly removed from a video blogging conference for threatening someone? … [Read more...]
