How Piety and Perfectionism Prime a Child for Explotation and Victimization

by Cindy Kunsman cross posted from her blog Under Much More GraceOriginally published January 2012. This is part of a series on Understanding How Emotional Development in Childhood Affects Adults: Fostering Spiritual Abuse via the “Roots of Victimization” All images originals from Under Much More Grace. Human beings make mistakes, and it is unreasonable and unhealthy for people to believe that they are perfect. By embracing and anticipating the needs of children related to their characteristic of imperfection, parents can raise children who become adults who not only feel comfortable with themselves, but they learn to become accountable for the impact that their actions have on other peo … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Christians Are Supposed To Be Judgmental?

by Steven L. Anderson from Faithful Word Baptist Church - Pope Francis and His LiesEditor's note: A recent sermon by Anderson in which he makes some pretty ridiculous claims, such as that the Catholics copied the idea of monks and nuns from the Buddhists, that Pope Francis is some sort of agent of the Anti Christ and that all Catholics do is sit around all day worshiping Mary.  In this morsel of word salad from that sermon Anderson claims that it's perfectly fine for Christians of their ilk to judge Catholics, the Pope and anyone else that isn't exactly like them. … [Read more...]

Duggars Aplenty: Josh’s New Porn Star, Jill Poised To Poorly Deliver and Assorted Duggarnalia

For a week or so I've been avoiding posting much of anything about the Duggar family even as there's been new information being blasted out in the media and tabloids. We skipped Michelle Duggar's birthday with all the public accolades from the children and haven't paid much attention to the fact that The Learning Channel will be doing a series of shows on Jill Duggar Dillard and Jessa Duggar Seewald in place of their family television show '19 Kids & Counting', may it mercifully fail and leave no Duggars on the small screen. This means Jessa will get her wish to have the birth of her first child filmed and televised. In what sort of screwed up world is it considered that having your most … [Read more...]

Answering “Preparing To Be A Help Meet” – Don’t Know What To Do…Help Please!

Another installment of giving better answers to the questions asked at Debi Pearl’s site message board for the book ‘Preparing To Be A Help Meet’. Many young ladies ask questions on all sorts of different subjects brought up by the book. There was just one big problem, many of the answers stray into either the outright bad and emotionally unhealthy to dangerous. Yes, typical Debi Pearl borderline abusive. Here’s what we’re going to be doing here at NLQ. Every week, once or twice a week, I’ll be posting up one of the questions from the message board and ask you, our readers, to answer that poor soul’s question in a way that is logical, rational and the best possible solution, in other words 18 … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Christian Women Prettier?

by Doug Wilson from Blog and Mablog - On Why Christian Women Are PrettierEditor's note: Wilson tries to claim in this piece that Christian women are more beautiful because they were created as God's glory and that they keep this glory by their good works, not plastic surgery, not expensive products or good genetics but by works. Again, women reduced down to a small subset of their true potential. … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Unbelieving Women Are Either Sluts or Lesbians?

by Doug Wilson of Blog and Mablog - On Why Christian Women Are PrettierEditor's note: This is the father of the lady that claimed so many not nice things about 'Evangelical Feminists'. It's obvious the apple didn't fall very from from the parental tree. Wilson is claiming that Christian women are always so much more attractive than non believers because Bible and lumping everyone else in two different categories 'easy lay' or 'lumberjack dykes' I don't remember anything in the Bible that puts women in such tiny limited roles. … [Read more...]

“Lies Women Believe” Review 135 – 167

by Samantha Field cross posted from her blog Samantha P Field.comThis week’s Lies Women Believe review covers the chapter I’ve been dreading– the chapter on marriage. It was as horrific as I was expecting, and re-reading the sections I’d highlighted when I was in abusive relationship with a rapist made me sick all over again. I know this for a fact: the ideas Nancy argues for in this book keep women in abusive relationships. So, let’s dig into this miasmic pile of filth, shall we? … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: A Tax on Working Mothers?

by Biblical Gender Roles at Biblical Gender – Lindsey Graham Says We Need to Import Other Country’s(SIC) ChildrenEditor's note: So this is more from the piece we quoted last week involving Lindsay Graham saying we would need to import workers to offset the coming large number of baby boomers retiring. In this part BGR's wants the government and our tax system to reward Quiverfull families with lots of children and stay at home mothers, while penalizing any mother with children that does dare to work outside of the home. There's nothing taking into account the fact that for many families, even those where the mother would like to stay home with the children or feels massive gui … [Read more...]

God Burns My Kids To Show Himself?

by Joe Sands cross posted from his blog Incongruous CircumspectionOriginally posted April 2012A week ago, my 1 year old daughter dumped a scalding hot thermos of coffee down the front of her shirt.  It was entirely my fault and I was devastated.  Luckily, her burns were only minor with two small spots where it burned through to the fourth dermis layer.  It has healed quickly and she is on the fast track to recovery.  Unfortunately, the lasting effect is that we have to monitor the worst areas for the next two years so they don't get sunburned.  Then, we're home free.  The doctors do not expect any scarring, which is the most important factor to me. … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Evangelical Feminists Are Worse Than Controlling Patriarchs?

by Rebekah Merkle (Doug Wilson's daughter) from Femina Girls - My Brush With FeminismEditor's note: While parts of this blog posting make good points, such as swearing off wearing dresses because of some clueless patriarch type, there's also a bit of poisonous name calling, blaming and reducing others to bad caricatures. What do you think? She spends some of her blog posting making fun of people being triggered badly, something that many of us here who've walked out of QF regularly get to experience. … [Read more...]
