News: About Robin Williams Tragic Suicide

Robin Williams in a rare dramatic role on NBC's "Homicide: Life on the Street". He was nominated for an Emmy for his performance.

I'm sure by now you've heard that comedian and actor Robin Williams took his own life yesterday. While Robin wasn't Quiverfull or part of the fundamentalist evangelical Christian world his passing reminds us all again that those in the CPM believe all sorts of myths about depression and how to handle it. They marginalize the condition and treat depression sufferers as though they caused the condition themselves. No compassion and no encouragement to seek healthy treatment.Even as Robin Williams made so many people laugh he himself suffered from depression for many years.  … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: No Personal Agency For Women?

talkingback

by pastor Steve L. Anderson from the blog Ramblings of Sheldon Listening to women who talk back and argue with you is like experiencing Chinese water torture and Waterboarding. Given the choice, I’d rather experience Chinese Water Torture. Bonus material from The Friendly Atheist from that same sermon: You see all these celebrity women and music stars who are “independent” and “I can do it all myself” types! That is not who I want my children emulating, because “I don’t want them to think that is what a woman should strive to be. The Bible says a woman should strive to have a meek and quiet spirit…” … [Read more...]

Why the Church Needs Feminism

christianfeminism

by Kristen Rosser cross posted from her blog Wordgazer’s WordsToday I'm contributing to the Faith & Feminism synchroblog occurring this week, which"invite[s] feminists of all faiths to reflect with us on the interplay between feminist praxis and religious faith." Reading some of the amazing posts there, I'm mostly reminded of how little I know about oppression; how as a white, able-bodied, heterosexual, middle-class woman, I dabble at the edges of intersectional feminism, trying to open my eyes and ears to see and hear beyond my own privilege. But I'm learning.  Thanks to Sarah Bessey's wonderful book on the subject, I have already shared why I'm a Jesus Feminist despite the tendency i … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: What’s He Doing Watching Nude Reality Shows?

"Naked and Afraid" plus extremely pixelated. Is this really 'erotic' to anyone?

by Tony Reinke at Ladies Against Feminism  and at Desiring God - What We Learn From Nude Reality TVWe laugh when little children run down the neighborhood sidewalk unclothed, chased by an embarrassed and apologetic parent. There’s a funny innocence to it in the life of a child who, to some degree, is ignorant of sin. In the same way, when men and women show themselves nude in public, they act like children, like ignorant children dumb to the fires of sexual lust that fuel the most unspeakable crimes in this world. Nobody can be protected from this. Even within the safe haven of a church will arise men who “have eyes full of adultery, insatiable for sin” (2 Peter 2:14). To stoke the flame … [Read more...]

CTBHHM: Sex, Charles and Lesbians

questioning

by Libby Anne cross posted from her blog Love, Joy, FeminismCreated To Be His Help Meet, pp. 196This week we continue with Debi’s questions not to ask your husband.7. Do you ever think of just loving me in the spiritual way instead of always the carnal? I am so hungry for some deep spiritual understanding and communication. Something deep inside him is so dissatisfied, so frustrated that she responds intimately only when she feels right about it. It speaks nothing of his manhood. His soul is sick all the way to its core. He falls asleep fantasizing about the woman he met in the store today. God, help his filthy soul.Translation: If you tell you don’t sexually satisfy your hus … [Read more...]

Homeschooling, Child Abuse Rates and the ‘Liberal Conspiracy’

invisiblechildren

by Heather Doney cross posted from her blog Becoming WorldlyHomeSince Michelle Goldberg’s Daily Beast article “The Sinister Side of Homeschooling” came out, there have been a number of people expressing support for what some of us homeschool grads are doing to raise awareness, but there have been others that have accused us of being part of some vast liberal conspiracy to force children into the public schools to be indoctrinated and too many people have crunched the numbers of deaths reported on Homeschooling’s Invisible Children and concluded that there are less children dying in homeschools than in the public schools so our conclusions about homeschooled children needing more protect … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Weariness is a Natural Part of Motherhood?

weary

by Jennifer McBride cross posted from Ladies Against Feminism advertising a new site for tired Christian moms Be Not Weary - Be Not Weary: Hope for Tired MomsAre you a mother who struggles with chronic illness or even just plain old exhaustion? Be Not Weary is a brand new website just for you! Having struggled with severe adrenal fatigue myself for the past eight years my heart so goes out to other mothers who have health issues, who have grown weary or are going through a difficult season. Motherhood is a calling and a work like no other; and mothering through sickness and fatigue presents a special challenge. I have been there. I still am there. And it is such a comfort to know that ou … [Read more...]

Preparing To Be A Help Meet: The King Part 4

King Clovis I using the royal touch at his coronation to heal a man of scrofula.

by Mel cross posted from her blog When Cows and Kids Collide This is the second to last "King" post - and the last one that talks directly about the "King's" lunacy."Kings usually like fine meals served on time and in good order.  If you are an especially fine cook, your gifts will be greatly appreciated.  A Kingly Man is not one to help out in the kitchen."Translation: Your husband, who never lifts a finger, is free to complain about your crappy cooking, your failure to plate everything like a restaurant , and/or your inability to have dinner ready when HE wants it."Kings like to talk about their plans, ideas, and unfinished projects.  They will be very objective, very unem … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Not Quiverfull?

quiverfull

by Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar from "A Love That Multiples" pages 92-93 We find it amusing how many reporters copy and past information they find about us that someone else has copied and pasted without checking the facts. For instance, even though wiki and some Internet blogs report that we are part of the Quiver Full movement, we are not. We are simply Bible-believing Christians who desire to follow God's Word and apply it to our lives. God says children are a gift and a blessing and we believe it! QUOTING QUIVERFULL is a regular feature of NLQ – we present the … [Read more...]

farris

by R.L. Stollar cross posted from Homeschoolers Anonymous Yesterday the Independent Review Committee (IRC) of Patrick Henry College (PHC) made public to PHC alumni their final report and recommendations about campus sexual assault. Requested by PHC’s alumni association and commissioned by the college on February 19, 2014, the the IRC’s purpose was to conduct “an independent review of the New Republic incidents, and those propounded by any other past allegations of sexual assault, either in this audit or a separate one.” (“The New Republic incidents” refer to numerous cases of sexual assault and harassment at PHC as reported by Kiera Feldman in The New Republic.) The committee consisted of 8 … [Read more...]
