Quoting Quiverfull: Only Men Are in the Image of God?

by Larry Solomon from Biblical Gender Roles - Is Donald Trump Making America Masculine Again?Editor's note: Larry is at it again, mixing Bible with his prejudices against women and stirring in a soupcon of politics. What must it be like to be so insecure in your own sexuality that you must constantly defend your gender norm ideals? He must be thrilled with the appointment of Steve Bannon. … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Men Always Dump Women After Unmarried Sex?

by Unknown at Girl Defined - La La Land: A Conflicting Message for Christian GirlsEditor's note: The emphasis bolding below is mine. I would love to ask these two rather immature young women that run the Girl Defined blog why they think it is that you can sleep with someone you married and they don't immediately lose interest now that they've had sex. Having sex with someone you're not married to does not automatically get you dumped. It's shame-based thinking like that which harms women. I haven't seen this movie so I'm not sure how accurately they are describing the film. … [Read more...]

The Superbowl, Wooden Dildos and Peaceful Resistance

by Suzanne TitkemeyerFor the last few weeks I've been out of the country, on a trip to Costa Rica to find a place to retire. I've missed a lot of the political commentary and the actions of our new president. Which was a good thing it turns out. The constant drum beat of news we experience here in the United States has been making me anxious. There was none of that during my weeks in this tropical nation, I slept peacefully and the anxiety dreams I've been plagued with for months disappeared. My suddenly high blood pressure normalized. I know I'm not the only one feeling like this right now either. What little that did filter through to me in Central America was largely horrifying. … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Part 2 – No Fat Kids Allowed Ever?

by Michael Pearl and Lori Alexander from The Transformed Wife - Training Children to Not Be GluttonsEditor's note: Now we move onto the second part of this toxic mess - Lori Alexander explaining how she controlled her children's eating and if you do not do the same - stay home and cook good food from scratch daily then you are failing your primary task as a mother. So much privilege in her words! Does she not realize that the cheaper foods that most in the Quiverfull world can afford to feed their children are also the most calorie-laden. Only someone that has never had to struggle with poverty and food insufficiency would say things like this! … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Part 1 – No Fat Kids Allowed

by Michael Pearl and Lori Alexander from The Transformed Wife - Training Children to Not Be GluttonsEditor's note: This first part is all Lori quoting Michael on the evils of fat, and how mothers set up their children for a lifetime of obesity. More fat shaming mixed with shaming of mothers. While it is rarely a good idea to feed your child an endless parade of McDonalds or other fast food and much of the cheaper prepared foods readily available everywhere this is really one of those issues that is personal. Some folks can eat those things with zero effect, while others can gain weight even eating their version of healthy. How dare Michael and Lori try to shame mothers for every decision … [Read more...]

Examining ATI Wisdom Booklets – Music

Found this on Facebook in a group discussing how much control Bill Gothard and his Institute of Basic Life Principles exerted over his followers. It's a page from one of the Wisdom Booklets that NLQ blogger Mel has yet to cover - why all Christian music that is not an old hymn is a sin. I guess Gothard doesn't realize that most of the hymns from the 1700 and 1800s were new lyrics coupled with the melodies of drinking songs and tunes played in the taverns of the time. … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Patriarchal Homeschoolers Most Marginalized People?

by Tim Bayly from Bayly Blog - The Good Father: Teaching Your Child to Submit to AuthorityEditor's note: Here Bayly discusses Patriarchal Homeschoolers and rebellion. Surprisingly enough the unquoted part of this piece has Bayly admitting that the real problem with rebellion starts with the fathers being too selfish and self-involved. But this part we're quoting is Quiverfull martyrbating at its finest. … [Read more...]

Questioning the Pearls: Whining is Strictly Prohibited

For well over a year we’ve been running a second Answering ‘Preparing To Be A Help Meet’ on Sundays, filled with questions by young ladies trying to get ready for marriage. Since we’ve run through many of the questions on their site it’s time to shift Sundays to something else, like perhaps examining the cornucopia of probably fake emails and questions that Michael and Debi Pearl of No Greater Joy post on their website and the possibly poisonous answers they give. … [Read more...]
