Quoting Quiverfull: Part 1 – Before Internet There Was No Incest & Very Little Infidelity Among Christians?

by Michael Pearl from No Greater Joy - The ChallengeEditor's note: This article is so filled with rose-colored views of the past combined with dire warnings about the future that it really begs to be examined piece by piece. Michael seems to think that no one but a few perverts looked at porn before 1982. This piece is from 2002. What do you think? How does he explain the strip clubs of the 1950s and 60s? How about all the nudie magazines you could buy? The start of Playboy in the 1950s? He doesn't. Pornography predates Christ by quite some time. Claiming that Christians didn't do these things in the past is really delusional. … [Read more...]

Answering ‘Preparing To Be A Help Meet’ – When The Ministry Is Exhausting & You’re Getting Discouraged

Another installment of giving better answers to the questions asked at Debi Pearl’s site message board for the book ‘Preparing To Be A Help Meet’. Many young ladies ask questions on all sorts of different subjects brought up by the book. There was just one big problem, many of the answers stray into either the outright bad and emotionally unhealthy to dangerous. Yes, typical Debi Pearl borderline abusive. Here’s what we’re going to be doing here at NLQ. Every week, once or twice a week, I’ll be posting up one of the questions from the message board and ask you, our readers, to answer that poor soul’s question in a way that is logical, rational and the best possible solution, in other words 18 … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: French Caused Own Death?

by Steven L. Anderson of Faithful Word Baptist Church as quoted by Raw Story - Arizona pastor blames 'sinful' France and Death Metal for Paris terror attackEditor's note: I don't even know where to start with this one there's so much wrong, hateful, unChristian and blaming/shaming.... We've not posted about the Paris tragedy here at NLQ because while it's awful and a concern it's not really related to Quiverfull or Evangelicalism. But now that so many so-called 'Christians' have started pointing fingers, behaving badly and blaming the victims it's an issue for us. May the people of France and Lebanon be able to find their way to healing and wholeness in the aftermath and avoid guys like … [Read more...]

It opens the door for Dillon's attorney to ask all about his sexual history. Will Josh lie under oath? From In Touch: “The defendant may be subject to [having to talk about] his prior bad [or] sexually abusive acts at trial,” Danica’s attorney Marc Frumer tells In Touch exclusively. “They are all relevant if he takes the stand.” Best statement of the entire article? Josh Duggar Could Not Follow Rules?

The Inquistr has a fascinating article about that recent evening flight of the Duggar family plane through very hazardous weather from Rockford, Illinois to Springdale, Arkansas. This is the flight where people are alleging Josh Duggar was taken out of rehab and flown home. There are people at the Rockford airport that claim to have seen Josh among the others boarding that plane. The article raises a number of interesting questions I've been pondering myself. First, why didn't Jim Bob Duggar and assorted Duggars simply not check into the nearest Embassy Suites or other hotel to ride out the rough weather and fly out in the morning after the storm cells had passed? It's not like they … [Read more...]

Effects of Patriarchy on Gender and Relationships

by AJ cross posted from her blog I am Phoenix It was when I was in my early 20's while still living at home, right before the intervention that resulted in me leaving the homestead.I realize now this phase was my silent, extreme reaction to growing up in a patriarchal environment. My version of "fuck you!" without daring to talk. Talking was too dangerous, too scary. Too many repercussions.  This, on the other hand, was my quiet way of taking a stand and rebelling. Although I didn't know it at the time and didn't even realize it until recently. … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Friends Not Doing It ‘Right’ – Start Lecturing Them & Send Us Their Contact Information?

by Debi Pearl from No Greater Joy - Other Children Changing Your Child's DestinyEditor's note: This is one of those Pearl letters that are sprinkled throughout their advice-giving that seems, hmm, somehow 'fake' or made up just for whatever toxic child-beating point the Pearls are currently promoting. In this letter the mother is complaining that her friends with children at church don't discipline or train their children like she and her husband do. She's worried that the kids will rub off and influence her children, but doesn't want to cut off contact like her husband urges. Here's Debi's reply, toxic as always: … [Read more...]

How the Evangelical Teaching on Anger Affects the Manner in Which a Person Lives

by Bruce Gerencser cross posted from his blog The Life and Times of Bruce GerencserBe ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: Ephesian 4:26 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God. James 1:20Anger is a common human emotion. Each of us handles anger differently.  Some of us are quick-tempered, others internalize anger, and some of us count to ten or use other control techniques. No matter how anger affects us or how we deal with it, we’ve all been angry at one time or another. … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Quiverfull Makes You Happy & Fulfilled?

by Tim Bayly from Bayly Blog - Faith and Sex...Editor's note: More disingenuous claims that all QF Christians are going about it the 'right' way while ignoring that the highest divorce rates in the US occur among Christians. Faith and sex my rear end. Guess I should be grateful this is not his usual whining. Almost as bad as the time he insisted that child sexual abusers need grace, forgiveness and help without mentioning once care for the victims or involving law enforcement. … [Read more...]

The Value of Shame

by Samantha Field cross posted from her blog Samantha P Field.comI have … unusual hair. At one point when I was a child, it was so long I could sit on it, but it wasn’t just the length that made it stand out. It was also full, thick, voluminous– or as my partner likes to call it, “robust.” I have thick, wavy hair and I have a lot of it. It was also fairly healthy, so, as long as it was, it kept its body all the way to the ends. Honestly, it didn’t even look real. … [Read more...]
