Quoting Quiverfull: Infidelity Is The Wife’s Fault?

Biblical Gender Roles from Biblical Gender Roles.com - Five Reasons Josh Duggar and Other Christian Mean Fall Into Sexual ImmoralityEditor's note: We knew this would be one of the 'go to' reasons by BGR, the wife not giving out the sex and kind of sex that the man is supposedly hard-wired by God to desire. That's sort of like blaming a head of lettuce when you're dieting, you slip and eat a doughnut. It's not the head of lettuce's fault, it's yours for not controlling your unhealthy desires. Just glad he doesn't say it's right to cheat when you're not getting the amount and type of sex you want. … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Don’t Trust Your Own Feelings?

by C. S. Lewis as quoted by Vaughn Ohlman at True Love Doesn't WaitEditor's note: Of course we know that Vaughn is sharing this paragraph for a two fold purpose. 1) To claim that feelings of love have no place in the decision of whom to marry and 2) to make that fundamentalist claim that feelings are not important at all, that you have to deny them. We all know what this type of emotional denial and thought crimes leads straight to. It's never mentally healthy to deny your own thoughts and emotions. … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Josh Duggar Would Not Have Strayed If He Had Been Polygamist?

by Biblical Gender Roles from Biblical Gender Roles.com = Five Reasons Josh Duggar and Other Christian Men Fall Into Sexual ImmoralityEditor's note: While this piece starts off with something I can agree with, that teenagers must have healthy sexual outlets such as masturbation and be taught that having sexual thoughts and feelings are a normal part of life it then goes into some rather weird places. Like Polygamy. BGR claims that men are hard wired to be polygamists.  Polygamy is the answer to cheating he seems to be saying. … [Read more...]

The Bait and Switch Evangelistic Methods of Evangelicals

by Bruce Gerencser cross posted from his blog The Life and Times of Bruce Gerencser(Editor's note: People sometimes ask here how we've gotten hornswoggled into being Quiverfull or joining unhealthy churches. I think for some of us it starts with someone trying to do a friendship bait and switch conversion 'Come to Jesus' and sort of snowballs from there. Bruce Gerencser breaks it down in this article of how that works)On a previous iteration of this blog, a fundamentalist Christian by the name of Harold commented on The Jonathan Nichols Story:Growing up Gay in the IFB Church  post. This post is an excerpt of Jonathan’s story about being raised in the Newark Baptist Temple, the church … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Women Be Silent In Church Matters?

by Tim Bayly from The Bayly Blog - Rachel Miller and Valerie Hobbs: Where is the Apostle Paul When We Need Him?Editor's note: Tim Bayly is having what sounds like a ridiculous foot-stomping whiny little hissy fit over the fact that women - W-O-M-E-N - have opinions, options and leadership positions in churches over men. What is it about these weak Christian men that the moment a woman has an opinion they act like someone is trying to cut their penises off with a dull meat cleaver? It does not say anything positive about their shaky grasp of masculinity. Relax, Tim, women aren't out to 'get' you. What did these two women do to invoke the petty behavior of Tim Bayly? Why they openly … [Read more...]

Part 3: Where in the World is Josh Duggar?

There's a lot of strange speculation over Josh Duggar around the media so instead of putting up a post for each one I'm combining all of them into one. Some of these are silly.Various media outlets are still saying that Josh is at Reformers Unanimous in Rockford, Illinois without there being any real evidence that Josh is there. Earlier that same evening the Duggar plane also visited Doug Phillip's stomping grounds of San Antonio, Texas. But some internet commenters at gossip site Perez Hilton are claiming that there have been sightings of Josh in Rockford at RU.  Someone there is taking the name of the possible rehab I came up with for Vyckie's Raw Story article as the gospel truth. We … [Read more...]

Part Two – Tim Keller on the Meaning of the Sex Act in Marriage: A Virtual Dialogue With Shirley Taylor

by Cindy Kunsman cross posted from her blog Under Much GraceThe previous post discussed the Doctrine of the Eternal Subordination of the Son in the Trinity which the Southern Baptist Convention falsely contends has been the only orthodox understanding of the Trinity since the original Biblical texts were penned and a belief always held by theologians. In Keller's book, The Meaning of Marriage, he goes on to quote George Knight III in Recovering Biblical Manhood and Womanhood in a statement of agreement: … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Christians Are Aiding The Coming The Anti-Christ?

by Michael Pearl from No Greater Joy magazine - Prophecy, Preparation, and PanicEditor's note: I'm sharing this because most of the people I know that are still either in the Quiverfull movement or are still hardcore evangelical or fundamentalist Christians are carrying on about the return of Christ and the end of the world occurring sometime between Sept. 15 and Sep. 23. Just a few weeks away. Even Charisma News is getting in on the end of the world bandwagon with this article. Too bad the writer doesn't seem to realize that the day he's predicting that the US stock market will crash is a Sunday and the market does not do active trading on Sundays. But we all know facts never stopped a … [Read more...]

“Lies Women Believe” Review: 63 – 90

by Samantha Field cross posted from  her blog Samantha P Field.comFair warning: today’s post is a little long. Because of that, I’ve decided to break today’s review up into the same sections that Nancy divides this chapter– “Lies Women Believe About Themselves”. Eve’s Diary These diary entries are supposed to reflect in some way the similarities between this fictional Eve and modern women, especially concerning the “lies we believe,” so I wondered if Nancy was ever going to address one particular statement Eve makes in this entry: I don’t know if [Adam will] ever trust me again. In a way, I can’t blame him. I’ve really wrecked his life. I feel so stupid. Adam just doesn’t understand … [Read more...]

Quoting Quiverfull: Live Like Martyrs To Win Your Children Over To Christ?

by Susan Zakula from Susan's Corner and as the author of those 'interesting' book reviews - Child Rearing---Surprisingly SimpleEditor's note: In an earlier unquoted paragraph she throws shade at Michael Pearl, Gary Ezzo et al. More good Christian Cannibalism going on. They don't have to be persecuted and defamed by non-believers when they do it so well among themselves. So what she's basically saying in this entire article is that you have to be an anti-social weirdo that is ready to be burned at the stake for Jesus in order to raise your children correctly.  It takes a bit more than that. … [Read more...]
