An eight year old girl who wears pants, sneakers, short hair and loves sports has been expelled from her Christian school after being told she is not following “her God-ordained identity.”
Sunnie Kahle was removed from Timberlake Christian School after her family received a letter telling them that the eight year old failed to follow the school’s “biblical standards.”
The letter states that students have been confused about whether Sunnie is a boy or girl and specifies that administrators can refuse enrollment for condoning sexual immorality, practicing a homosexual lifestyle or alternative gender identity.
The letter states:
“We believe that unless Sunnie as well as her family clearly understand that God has made her female and her dress and behavior need to follow suit with her God-ordained identity, that TCS is not the best place for her future education.”
Sunnie’s family has since removed her from the Christian school, and she is now attending public school. However, Sunnie’s grandmother reports Sunnie “cries every morning to get on the bus, she cries when she comes home because she wants to go back to Timberlake Christian with her friends.”
Isolating, alienating, and bullying young children is despicable. No doubt it is for the best that Sunnie has been removed from the toxic environment of a Christian school. And while there is a strong case to be made that Timberlake Christian School and other Christian schools like it are engaged in an insidious yet profound form of child abuse, currently there is nothing illegal in promoting prejudice and bigotry in the guise of a private Christian education.
