Right Wing Nut: A conservative talk radio host made the absurd claim that “all racists must be atheists,” arguing that it wasn’t possible to believe in God and still be a racist.
Denver talk radio host Dan Caplis, of KNUS-AM, made his bizarre and insulting comments towards atheists on Monday morning during a discussion of Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling, who made news after some bigoted and racist comments made during a recorded phone call were released earlier this week.
On his program, Caplis claimed:
“Nobody who believes in God can be a racist, in my view, because once you believe God made us, you mean, God made junk? God many somebody lesser just by virtue of the color of their skin? So my starting point is always all racists must be atheists. They can’t possibly believe in God.”
After receiving numerous complaints about his insulting remarks, an obtuse Caplis tried to explain, saying:
“I apologize if it was taken that way, but never could’ve imagined somebody would think I was saying that all atheists are racists. That would be a goofy thing to say. I was just saying all racists are atheists.”
All racists are atheists?
Apparently Caplis is unfamiliar with the Ku Klux Klan, the Mormon church before 1980, and countless other good Christians and other theists over the ages who have used their belief in a god to justify racism, slavery, and all other manner of bigotry and discrimination.
Clearly Caplis is intellectually challenged, and fails to grasp the most simple historical facts. Perhaps he is blinded by religious superstition; perhaps he is just a troll insulting people he doesn’t like. More than likely, he is a little bit of both. But in the end, Caplis is just another Right Wing Nut, slinging mud for Jesus.
