Interview with Heather MacDonald on coming out as an atheist conservative

Gene Expression has a nice ten-question interview with Heather MacDonald, John M. Olin Fellow at the Manhattan Institute, about her article in The American Conservative in August of last year, in which she revealed her atheism. She wasn’t in the closet about her conservatism.

Hat tip to Catallarchy.

Honestly, I don’t see the big deal. There are plenty of atheists (even public ones) who are conservative but atheist. It just happens though that some of these atheists are open to Judeo-Christian values. Also, there are some Darwinian conservatives too.

I hope more conservatives come out as atheists; I read an exit poll, and I hope it’s true, that Bush got 31% of the atheist vote in 2004. As a conservative republican atheist myself, I can say most atheists I have been in contact with are liberals, even far left, but there are some of us out there.
