A secular atheist country dominated by radical Islamists

Apparently, probable US presidential candidate Newt Gingrich just declared that

“I have two grandchildren: Maggie is 11; Robert is 9,” Gingrich said at Cornerstone Church here. “I am convinced that if we do not decisively win the struggle over the nature of America, by the time they’re my age they will be in a secular atheist country, potentially one dominated by radical Islamists and with no understanding of what it once meant to be an American.”

It’s interesting to see how at least some American right-wingers so readily associate “secular atheist” with “dominated by radical Islamists.” I can just about put myself in an appropriately paranoid frame of mind in which such a link makes some vague kind of sense. But my brain hurts when I do so—it’s painful to try to sustain the mood.

The US is a country of morons ruled by assholes. As are, I imagine, most other countries. Civilization doesn’t deserve to survive.

This is reminscent of the Rainier Wolfcastle movie in The Simpsons, in which McBain is under attack by "Commie Nazis." Remember, everything that is, ever has been, and ever will be wrong with the world is the other side's fault.

At the risk of breaking Godwin's Law, I offer a response:

"The National Government …regards Christianity as the foundation of our national morality, and the family as the basis of national life…. "

No understanding of what it once meant to be an American?

So no more sitting in an armchair with a six-pack and a pile of snack foods, watching Monday Night Football?

No more rights to buy semi-automatic weapons?

No more lamenting the loss of religion in public life, while being unable to name the 4 Gospels?

I would define the above quote about a secular atheist America being ruled by Islamists as an oxymoron, but due to the fact that it's overtly moronic, I'll just call it for what it is: ignoranity (ignorance x insanity).

I think Newt tried to channel Geert Wilders. Many secular-atheist Europeans worry about a demographic takeover of their part of the world by the more fecund Muslim immigrants in their midst.

I think the Pubs have tried to save face by saying that Newt really meant to put an "or" in there somewhere. He was simply misinterpreted.
Sort of like Hitler saying he meant to add "non" when he said that the Jews should be wiped off the earth for the good of Nazism.

Great post, Taner. I would add "greedy" before "assholes" in your description of the current state of American civilization. Being from Georgia, I have heard about Newt Gingrich from way back. He is a world class idiot.
