On Sunday, pro-life activist and Catholic priest Frank Pavone posted two videos on his Facebook page of an actual aborted fetus, using it to appeal to his followers to vote for Donald Trump.
In the video, he encourages his followers to vote for Trump, saying that he and his fellow Republicans will put and end to the “child killing” known as abortion. As Hemant points out at Friendly Atheist, “If Trump becomes president and abortion is ever outlawed, it will not prevent abortions from occurring. All it’ll do is make abortions less safe for women to obtain. It’ll push the procedure underground, forcing women to resort to drastic measures in the case of an unwanted pregnancy.”
He’s absolutely right. Roe v. Wade didn’t signal the beginning of abortions. Rather, it allowed women to obtain abortions legally and safely, without putting themselves at risk for serious injury and death when ending an unwanted pregnancy. An overturn of the famous Supreme Court case would more likely endanger the lives of women than force them to have unwanted children — children Frank Pavone and people in his camp want to be born but haven’t offered to care for once that happens.
Thankfully, I would imagine that this religious extremist’s videos are mostly only seen by those who are already anti-choice and are likely already Trump supporters (even though Trump was pro-choice before he ran on the GOP ticket). He’s probably preaching to the choir here, not affecting any election results, and if everything goes the way it’s predicted to today, his candidate will be dragged away kicking and screaming by 10pm Eastern Time.
