In Mexico Pope loses his cool after tumbling onto a child

In Mexico Pope loses his cool after tumbling onto a child February 17, 2016

An over-excited devotee pulled the Pope off his feet and onto a child in a wheelchair during his visit to Mexico.
As this video shows, the pontiff completely lost his cool, and began shouting in Spanish:

Don’t be selfish, don’t be selfish!

According to this report, Francis was shaking hands with members of the crowd at a stadium in Mexico when a well-wisher grabbed him with two arms and would not let go.

Security men scrambled to help the 79-year-old to his feet after he lost his balance and spent several seconds with his chest pressed against the child’s head.
It is not clear whether the well-wisher was a man or a woman.
It happened as the Pope wrapped up a visit to Mexico, where he has spoken out against the country’s brutal drug trade.

    Not a cult.
    Not a cult.
    Not a cult.
    This is NOT A CULT.

For some reason I am reminded Little Britain’s Sir Norman Fry MP:

  • barriejohn

I sympathize with him, but it’s his own fault for promoting himself like a bloody rock star. He isn’t. The sight of film stars posing on the red carpet this week, and preening themselves before their “adoring fans” was nauseating, and the general public seem prone to mass hysteria like never before.

  • L.Long

He’s worse than a rock star as a rock star usually does not claim to be able to do miracles and heal people. Looking at it from the delusional person’s point, it was a good thing to do!!! More people should try doing this!! Then maybe he will stay home!!

Somebody shone a Laser at Popey’s aeroplane as it came into land – a message from below rather than above?

  • Cali Ron

I’m shocked that the pope fell down and had to be helped up. Why didn’t god protect him from falling and when he did why didn’t god “lift him up”? You’d think the all mighty could protect his number 1 on earth better than that. It’s almost as if he isn’t really there at all.

  • barriejohn

Cali Ron: Something like this were you thinking?
“For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.” (Psalm 91:11-12)
    Nah, surely not!

Just for a moment the meticulously crafted and maintained image is shattered. He is seen as ordinary. Just like the royals: people of little distinction, banal and ordinary (like most of us) who are the result of a manufactured image.

  • L.Long

I know that Cali knows that gawd did protect the pope, at least as well as it is capable of doing anything!

  • Robster

At least rock stars can entertain, this silly little man mumbles nonsense then expects money and respect.

    The holy man gets irate…..
It reminds me of the execution of Jesuit priests in Elizabethan London – the super pious would wait below the gallows where the Jesuit was being hung, drawn and quartered. As the bits fell down the pious would snatch, fight and scramble over blood, fingers, intestines, over anything they could grab and keep as a holy relic to cure sickness etc. And today – over five centuries later – we have people desperately trying to touch the holy man and have some of his pixie dust rub off on them. Sometimes I feel evolution has driven passed a large chunk of humanity. Surely they belong to some sort of sub-species? There’s homo sapiens sapiens and there’s homo sapiens religiosus…gotta be .

Ivan: I was thinking similar thoughts. It’s amazing how many people visit A&E having accidentally fallen backwards onto an aerosol can and got it jammed up their back passage! Those clips are very funny, and based, of course, upon the late (well – his career is “late”, anyway) David Mellor – a man whose name is entirely appropriate to those of us old enough to remember the Lady Chatterley trial of 1960. There doesn’t appear to be a clip – possibly because it involved his children – but this pic conveys the stomach-churning, nauseating, creepy, oleaginous nature of his public (as opposed to pubic) display:

Why didn’t god protect him from falling
Because he works in mysterious ways, haven’t you heard?

  • edwords

Do rock stars believe in Satan? (I mean… when they’re sober?)

  • Mark Palmer

I almost, (99%) always agree with everything you post here. And maybe I’m to dense to understand. But you really lost me this time.
And I don’t understand the photo link you posted here. Maybe it’s something British that that this knucklehead from the U.S.just does not get…

  • barriejohn

Mark Palmer: Sorry – it IS a British joke, and you need to read Ivan’s comment (above), and watch his videos, to see the connection. David Mellor was a prominent British government minister (and rent-a-gob), who fell from grace quite spectacularly when his mistress exposed (almost) all to a national “newspaper” (one of Rupert Murdoch’s grubby rags). Mellor then paraded his unfortunate family before the press in an embarrassing show of unity – and was divorced two years later!
PS Only 99%? What’s the matter with the rest then?
