Crazy Jewish sect bars women from attending universities

Crazy Jewish sect bars women from attending universities August 23, 2016

A warning that a university education is ‘dangerous’ and should be avoided by Ultra-Orthodox Jewish women has been issued by the insular Satmar sect, which has its headquarters in New York.
According to this report, a decree issued by the sect and written in Yiddish, says:

It has lately become the new trend that girls and married women are pursuing degrees in special education. Some attend classes and others online. And so we’d like to let their parents know that it is against the Torah.
We will be very strict about this. No girls attending our school are allowed to study and get a degree. It is dangerous. Girls who will not abide will be forced to leave our school. Also, we will not give any jobs or teaching position in the school to girls who’ve been to college or have a degree.
We have to keep our school safe and we can’t allow any secular influences in our holy environment. It is against the base upon which our Mosed was built.

The decree applies to Satmar members around the world.
The Board of Deputies of British Jews estimates that there are around 30,000 strictly Orthodox Jews living in the UK, of which Satmar is the largest sect.
Last year, it emerged that some ultra-Orthodox Jews in north London had banned women from driving, citing concerns that it was immodest for them to do so.
The university ban was condemned by Dr Sharon Weiss-Greenberg, Executive Director of the Jewish Orthodox Feminist Alliance, who said the decree would “force” people to stay in their communities.

The Satmar community chooses to live in an isolationist enclave. They believe that the secular elements of the world would tarnish the lives and beliefs of those who consider themselves to be religious.
There are probably other factors at play, but, ultimately, the results are devastating. Because people from similar communities are not provided with a foundational primary education, they cannot pursue higher education nor careers. When one does not have access to education, career opportunities are out of reach. It forces one to stay within the community as everyone’s personal lives are tied up with their professional lives as well.

Dr Jonathan Romain, Rabbi of Maidenhead Synagogue and chair of the Accord Coalition which links religious and secular groups to promote inclusive education, said:

There is much to admired about the ultra-Orthodox, including the Satmar group, who are a very law-abiding community. However, their choice to separate themselves from much of the world around them is not a view shared by many other Jews, who see no problem with being both rooted in Jewish identity and integrated into wider society.
Going to university is an experience to be valued, for both men and women, whom we regard as fully equal and who should have the same opportunities in education and the workplace. Limiting such abilities is a cause for regret.

Why is this such a minority position? It is the clear teaching of the Bible for both Jews and Christians, and that sacred tome is, after all, SUPPOSED to be their guide.
The Church teaches that husbands and wives are of equal dignity, but with different roles. Almost all of our children will choose to marry. Actually, since the purpose of a college degree is for a job, it becomes unnecessary for our daughters to have such a credential. My personal impression is that the day-to-day grind of a job is below the dignity of women. In a way, it is like being a hired hand, as result of the fall and the penalty for original sin. Of course the Lord and the Popes have raised the dignity of work as a way of husbands living out their vocation and duty. But the penalty for the woman as a result of the fall was pain in childbirth (which requires having babies), not to work. Sending our wives out to work should be a very last resort, a misfortune, so it shouldn’t be part of a plan for young ladies before they even get a start at family life. Keeping a home, being a loving wife, and being a nurturing mother are of immeasurable dignity to a woman and not something to be farmed out to servants. The feminist world has twisted this so that a job (career) appears elevated, and homemaking is denigrated. This is the evil work of Satan and devastating to families. (A Catholic view)

Educated women? Where will it all end? Next thing you know they’ll be wanting to think for themselves too.

  • “secular influences in our holy environment.”
Pretty sure unless this statement was written by hand (not printed and not online) in a middle-eastern nation in Hebrew then the fail was present from that point onward. Pretty sure these people pick and choose which secular influence they take in and which they deny. I don’t mind their choices, I make my own, but I don’t tell lies to myself about my choices.

The only religions that don’t slam women beneath their feet are the radical moderate ones that hypocritically IGNORE the actual teachings of their books o’BS!! Why is this a shock to so many??? Don’t they read their books o’BS?? Whoops! Of coarse they don’t!

  • Broga

Educate women and they start to think. They then realise the limitations of many of the men who have kept them subservient. Can’t have that.

From the Fix the Family site:
“Once she becomes sexually active with him, she releases hormones that mask his faults,”
How about that, boys and girls !
One roll in the hay and she sprays hormones that cover up what a jerk he is !
Somebody should bottle that up for sale…

‘Law abiding community…’ Sure, just WHICH LAW?

“[A] decree issued by the sect and written in Yiddish…”
” The language used by Jews in Europe and America, consisting mainly of German (orig. from the Middle Rhine area) with admixture (according to local or individual usage) of Balto-Slavic or Hebrew words, and printed in Hebrew characters.” OED
If they are “ultra-orthodox” shouldn’t that at least be in Hebrew (other Middle-Eastern languages are available) since their understanding of the original might have been tainted by translation through any one of the Middle European languages included in Yiddish?
Additionally, how can they be sure that the original translation from Jahwistic [I invented that one, I think.] into Hebrew was totally successful?
“No girls attending our school are allowed to study and get a degree. It is dangerous. Girls who will not abide will be forced to leave our school. Also, we will not give any jobs or teaching position in the school to girls who’ve been to college or have a degree.”
Which is,being translated, “We are a school but we don’t believe in education.” NB translation caution above.

Religion is always looking for ways to suppress and denigrate women and in this respect I have scored a hat-trick: A woman, Lesbian and degree educated – glad that pisses off the religious loons.

CoastalMaineBird: I could use a case of that stuff, then maybe …
Angela K: You are clearly an intelligent, successful woman and you don’t “need” a man to define yourself which makes you a threat to these weak, deluded men. In fact, I’m sure you’d scare the shit out of these sorry ass excuses for men if they had the balls to venture out of their religious cocoon.

Imagine what these ultra-orthodox fruitcakes must think of Hilary Clinton – a woman as potential President of the United States!!! A woman who might release her evil hormones across the globe!

  • Graham Martin-Royle

Women being educated, whatever next? They’ll want the vote as well. Never should have taught them how to read!
Seriously? Typical religion really, keep them in the dark & feed them BS.
@Angela_K: Kudos to you. Anything that angers religiots has to be good 🙂

Angela: Thanks for reminding us about that sketch. I’ve also been dying of laughter at the Association Football sketch again, as well!
