Kentucky taxpayers' learn that bigotry comes at a high price

Kentucky taxpayers' learn that bigotry comes at a high price October 25, 2017

Rowan Country clerk, Kim Davis, above, returned from her whirlwind anti-gay marriage tour of Romania this month to learn that a judge is insisting that Kentucky taxpayers’ must pay the legal fees incurred when she was sued for refusing to issue marriage licences to same-sex couples.
According to this report, in July, US District Judge David Bunning ordered Kentucky to pay $222,695 (£168,000) to the attorneys of April Miller and others, after they won a favourable judgment against the demented Christian. Bunning also awarded an additional $2,008 (£1,515) in other costs.
Governor Matt Bevin and Terry Manuel, Commissioner of the Kentucky Department for the Libraries and Archives – who were third-party defendants in the case –  appealed the ruling, claiming that Davis did not represent Kentucky when she acted against the US Supreme Court’s 2015 ruling in Obergefell v Hodges because her behaviour was not directed or approved by any state official.
Bunning once again found the argument unpersuasive, and rejected the appeal on Monday, saying in his 14-page ruling:

The Commonwealth of Kentucky is liable for plaintiffs’ attorneys’ fees and costs because defendant Kim Davis acted on behalf of the Commonwealth when she refused to issue marriage licences.

Davis became a poster girl for Christian bigots in the summer of 2015, after she refused to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.  The saga resulted in Davis being jailed for several days after she was found in contempt. Howls of Christian “presecution” echoed across the world.
She claimed her beliefs as an Apostolic Christian prevented her from issuing the licences.

In the months and years following her actions, Davis has been at the center of numerous legal proceedings. In September, Bunning ruled that two lawsuits from same-sex couples seeking damages could proceed against the clerk, but only in her individual capacity.
Despite these legal setbacks, Davis has continued her crusade against gay rights and recently visited Romania, where she advocated against gay marriage. Same-sex marriage is currently not legal in Romania, but some conservative politicians there want to specifically ban it via a constitutional amendment.
Her trip to Romania was sponsored by the Liberty Counsel, a far right wing American legal group, who has also provided legal counsel for Davis in the past.

This summer, Mat Staver, above, founder and Chairman the Liberty Council, which is officially designated as a hate group, wrote:

Fighting for Kim has been one of the most arduous and important cases Liberty Counsel has undertaken in recent years. Kim is the real victim here! Her story proves that the goal of the LGBTQ radicals is nothing short of the criminalisation of Christianity and the punishment of anyone who dares to stand in their way.
I will see Kim’s case through to final victory – no matter how many times our team has to go back to Kentucky and appear in court to turn back vicious assaults against this wonderful woman of faith!

Sorry, Matt, litigator for imaginary christian persecution, but Kim is a lying, hate filled hypocrite with no socially redeeming value. You, on the other hand are a parasite of modern society, using the legal system to deny people their rights and discriminating based on sexual orientation and religious beliefs. Please, go back to Romania where you and your deluded spreaders of hate and ignorance can slap each other on the back for how you have persecuted disempowered minorities while simultaneously claiming to be persecuted yourselves in spite of being in the majority. Pathetic how they have turned this dimwitted twit into a supposed martyr. Gives me the sudden urge to defecate.

Greetings fellow freethinkers. Just back from a week off the grid while I drove to Utah to meet my daughter and explore Zion and Bryce national parks. It was grand! I didn’t read or see any news or social media which allowed me to decompress and unwind myself. Not one mention of the orange madman or even a tweet. Upon return I see the world is still fucked up, but I am in a better state of mind to deal with it. I highly recommend the parks and geological formations in Utah, but don’t go in the summer and beware the Mormons, they will rob you blind if you let them.

Wonder who’s paying this firm’s legal bills? Certainly not her.

I have a very strong feeling that Davis inspired a new(ish) movie called “A Very Sordid Wedding” that mercilessly, and hilariously takes the piss out of people like her and other fellow fundalunatics.
    Here’s the trailer:

    @Barr D: I too am so…..confused!
But it’s an important point because with attitudes changing and perceptions of sexuality being turned, daily, inside out and upside-down, I guess the only way the fundies can hold on to their reality is by embracing even more bigotry.

Why isn’t the State of Kentucky suing “this wonderful woman of faith”? If I were one of the taxpayers, I would be furious!

Peterat: The Christian Liberty Counsel is an evangelical organization started by a married couple of lawyers with too much time and money, but not near enough common sense. They are affiliated with Liberty University Law School started by Jerry Falwell. Here is an example of the type of petty, stupid litigation they specialize in, “In December 2005, Liberty Counsel issued a press release accusing an elementary school in Dodgeville, Wisconsin, of changing the lyrics of Christmas songs to make them more secular, and said that it would sue the school district “if the district does not immediately remedy the situation.”
Here’s the link to the Wiki page for more sordid details.

The following is quite a lengthy article, and shows how these American evangelical organizations, which are obviously awash with money, are spreading their tentacles throughout the world:
Stavers gets a mention, as do many others with whom we have become familiar. For kind, loving Christians, they sure seem full of hatred and bile!

Did she even know where Romania was before she was invited there? And she is a fine specimen of humanity … a specimen of all the worst human characteristics … bigoted, spiteful, mean, nasty, narrow minded, self righteous, vindictive, selfish, tribal, hateful, specious, foolish, gullible, uncharitable, religious … … … … … … … pig ugly on the inside and even worse on the outside. A real horror.
