The 360 Degree Bike At SciTech!

I volunteer at this Science Museum. Because they are freaking AWESOME.

Tomorrow I’m dissecting squid with some kids and I’ll post about that and the Halloween Science CSIRO lab sessions from Tuesday as well. :)

We’ve gone a bit loopy at Scitech — literally — and are putting the final touches together on our awesome new exhibit — The 360 Bike. Unlike conventional bikes, this one doesn’t ride on a flat surface, but a 360 degree loop. In this clip you can see our brave Science Squad Manager, Craig Bloxsome, feeling the incredible acceleration of circular motion in a workshop test. The 360 Bike will be part of our new exhibition ‘Up, Down and Around’ that offers a whole range of full body experiences from the wonderful world of physics. Stay tuned for news of when The 360 Bike will be open for riding at Scitech!

I fail at reading comprehension. I read: “Tomorrow I’m dissecting squid AND some kids”.

Anyway that clip is awesome. Where can I get one of those bikes?

    • Kylie Sturgess

If the kids behave, no dissecting. Actually, if they misbehave, they might dissect me. Oh dear… 0.0

Thats a pretty sweet way of going nowhere in a hurry. I’d love to have a go but by the look of things it’d have a weight restriction that I’d likely exceed, also its on the wrong side of the country

Oh my gosh, I want that museum. I mean, the museums I work here in the states at are great, and we get to do awesome things, but… come on, that’s just not fair. I can’t get to AUSTRALIA any time soon to go see it.

*goes off to grumble about the unfairness of how cool Australia gets to be*

You’ve just inspired me to go to scitech for the first time since I was 15.

There is no way I can continue living happily without cycling upside-down on that thing.

    • Kylie Sturgess

ABSOLUTELY! I’ve been volunteering since the start of the year and there’s always fascinating things to catch up on every two months. :) Sometimes more, when they start bringing in features that they’ve just been working on! :)
