Won’t Shut Up About #Burzynski? Photograph A TEENAGER’S HOUSE To Silence Them

A summary of the Burzynski’s efforts to censor bloggers is here - On The Burzynski Clinic Issuing Legal Threats Against Bloggers – Support The Streisand Effect.

From Rhys Morgan’s Blog - ‘Threats From The Burzynski Clinic‘:

Rhys,

This is my THIRD AND FINAL WARNING to you.

Please convey this message to your entire Skeptic Network, which includes but not limited to, Ratbags.com, thetwentyfirstfloor, quackwatch, etc. I represent Dr. Burzynski, the Burzynski Clinic, and the Burzynski Research Institute. I’ve attached Azad Rastegar, and Renee Trimble from the Burzynski Clinic for your confirmation.

In the following weeks I will be giving authorization to local attorneys in multiple countries to pursue every defamation libel case online, including your online libelous statements. I suggest you shut down your entire online defamation campaign about Dr. Burzynski, and remove ALL recent or previous comments off the internet IMMEDIATELY. The minute you post any libelous comments online about my client I will pursue you and your parents/guardians To the Full Extent of the Law. I have no obligation to train you, or teach you, the meaning of defamation. Google it, or go to the library and research it.

This is a very serious matter. Please confirm your mailing address, which I have on record as (my address). If you do not cooperate an official legal complaint requesting punitive damages will be mailed to that address. I will be contacting your school as well to inform them of your illegal acts.

Again, this is my FINAL WARNING TO YOU.

Regards,

Marc Stephens

This is harassment. First of all, he is the only one that thinks I have committed illegal acts. Contacting my school would be wholly inappropriate. Also, repeatedly sending me Google Maps screenshots of my house seems to me like he’s trying to intimidate me.

Please spread the word – and furthermore, continue writing about this issue on blogs, forums, Twitter and social media. Thank you to Ben Goldacre for raising the matter on Twitter.

I have been wondering about how these legal threats would even work, if they tried to pursue a case.
In the UK it’s illegal to claim you can cure cancer, due to the 1939 Cancer act.
So it would be a bit tricky for someone who claims to cure cancer to use a British court to sue someone who claims that they can’t cure cancer.

It’s probably all much more complicated…

Put up a picture of Marc Stephen’s house. The Clinics. What I haven’t ssen yet is exactly what the beef is. He must be a doctor of questionable practices, as I can see he treat cancer patients.

  • Daniel Sinnott

Marc Stephens is a spineless weasel, the fact that he was so deliciously pwned by Rhys is the icing on the cake after reading blogs from Peter Bowdich and others.

Damn. I’m jealous. It makes me wish I had blogged about this. I want a letter like that too.

If you do not cooperate an official legal complaint requesting punitive damages will be mailed to that address.

Because that’s exactly what you do with a legal complaint – you mail it to the defendant’s address. No need to drag the courts into it, after all. *eyeroll* How does that guy describe his function? “I’m Dr. Burzynski’s pseudo-legalistic cyber-bullying advisor.”?

    • illuminata

If you want to be charitable, you could say that what he meant was Defendant will be served with papers through a process server.

If you don’t want to be charitable, which is the side I land on, you could say he’s a spineless lying weasel who probably should have watched a few episodes of Law and Order before pretending to know what he’s talking about.

  • Randomfactor

How does that guy describe his function? “I’m Dr. Burzynski’s pseudo-legalistic cyber-bullying advisor.”?

    Or “thug” for short?

    • eNeMeE

Nah, that’s for his “terminally and horrifically uniformed guy/gal”. Which is his other position in the clinic (I imagine most folks there can claim the title, mind you).

  • ‘Tis Himself, OM

From what I understand, Mark Stephens is Burzynski’s PR guy. He’s not a lawyer.

  • ‘Tis Himself, OM

Rhys Morgan should send the following to Marc Stephens:

I refer you to the reply given in the case of Arkell v. Pressdram.

  • Art

Given it is his “final warning” can we assume he will STFU? I don’t see a down side.
