Well, the name “Josh Whedon” piqued my interest, but the promo extinguished it.

(I’ll wait until it’s on TV)

  • Wendigo1

    Who’s “Josh” Whedon? ;)

    • Kylie Sturgess

FUCK. Sorry. And it’s the WORST crime a fan can commit, I know. I had a really long, tough day?

      *hands in Browncoat* :(

Will mentioning Algernon Blackwood restore any geek credit?

“My feet of fire! My burning feet of fire! Oh! oh!”

Ah yes, John Silence. A fave of mine in my occult days.

Fran Kranz. Amy Acker. Tom Lenk. Written and directed by Fake Thomas Jefferson. Yeah, I pretty much have to see this.

Joss Wheedon is doing horror now? That’s a letdown — but maybe it’s a necessity for Wheedon given his best stuff isn’t blockbuster material.

    • Kylie Sturgess

Honestly? I was thinking ‘Okay, where’s The Avengers?’

I AM looking forward to the Much Ado About Nothing film, but I try to see as many Shakespeare films as I can. Aiming to see at least one version (either filmed or staged) of every play. I should make a list of all the ones I have seen, really, and where.

Whedon’s a genius at TV shows, where even his worst Dollhouse is more interesting than most things on TV, so I feel kinda anti him making movies. Especially superhero movies.

There’s a new version of Coriolanus that just came out (directed by and starring Ralph Fiennes) that’s getting very good reviews.

        • Kylie Sturgess

I am SO seeing that. I studied Plutarch in high school and love Fiennes’ work. :)

De-lurking to point out that horror movies are not automatically awful by virute of being horror movies. There are tons of crappy horror films, but there are also horror films that are good in their own rights (I would recommend The Others and 28 Days Later to anyone). Obviously taste is a factor as well, and if you don’t like horror movies that’s fine, but don’t be disappointed as if Whedon is stooping to work in horror–it is possible to elevate the genre beyond shocks and gore and create something worth watching.

From the trailer it looks like Cabin in the Woods puts a spin on the wilderness/camping subgenre, and I’m really excited to see it–especially because I like Whedon’s other work.

      • Kylie Sturgess

Hey, you’re preaching to the converted here – I posted it because I LIKE horror movies as a genre (Media minor at University; wrote papers on Hitchcock, Demme, Polanski and Romero, amongst others) and I’m interested in checking this out despite what I see is a rather flawed trailer.

I guess that’s what my hopes are for: that this will be more than it appears to promise, which quite frankly seems just another spin on ‘Saw’ (no pun intended).

        • Kylie Sturgess

Oh, and ‘Hush’ still freaks me out.

        • annesauer

Cheers–I wrote my BA paper on horror monsters as reflections of human immorality, and took a class on modern American horror film.

I was responding specifically to Raging Bee’s comment @4, which suggests that Whedon is making only making a horror film to bring in some bucks which he can spend on worthier projects.

          • Kylie Sturgess

I can’t really see Whedon doing that… certainly not after his track-record. Nor filming in his own house for fun! :) But I’d like to be proved wrong with this trailer and I’ll see it when it opens (and hopefully it doesn’t go straight to DVD and miss Australia altogether and I end up finding it two years later at the local Festival film store!).

Forget this. I just want Firefly back! *cries*
