Innovation Festival And AstroFest In Perth This Saturday

Two unmissable events (I’ll be volunteering at both) happening this Saturday:

Innovation Festival – 31 March 2012 | 10:00 am – 5:00 pm | Scitech, West Perth

The Innovation Festival at Scitech on Saturday 31 March is an extravaganza of activities to celebrate innovation and creativity in Western Australia.
See amazing innovations and products developed right here in WA – chat to their creators and discover their tips of the trade. Plus, don’t miss your chance to hear from special international guest Dr Ed Sobey, inventions guru and famous author of books such as The Way Toys Work, Inventing Stuff and Unscrewed: Salvage and Reuse Motors, Gears, Switches, and More From Your Old Electronics.

Astrofest – 31 March 2012 5:30 pm – 9:30 pm | Curtin Stadium, Bentley

This astronomy festival of epic proportions will be an engaging celebration of Australian science. As well as optical and radio telescopes observing throughout the day and night, Astrofest will feature a myriad of interesting, engaging and exciting indoor and outdoor activities for the whole family.

Take a look through some of WA’s biggest telescopes or bring your own telescope along for some expert advice and assistance.
With telescope observing throughout the evening, Astrofest activities will also include…

Indigenous astronomy presentation by CSIRO Astrophysicist Ray Norris Solar observing for early arrivals; model of the Square Kilometre Array telescope; Scitech Spacedomes and science shows, guest speakers and more. There will also be many different telescopes to try out, or you can bring your own for some expert advice in getting the most out of it.

Here’s a small film I made about my experiences at the 2011 event:
