UPDATES at end of this blogpost.
The US Government website http://www.ussc.gov has been hacked (and of course, this isn’t the first time Anon has done this – I’ve used this Hungry Beast YouTube explanation of the hacking of the Australian Government website for Operation Titstorm from 2010) – and they have a transcript and this video featured:
I’m lost as to exactly what it’ll entail (anything featuring clips from the 1980s film War Games can’t be good though…), and I’ve yet to see any official news release about it. I’ll add some as I find them.
- A Rolling Stone article on Why Did The Justice System Target Aaron Swartz?
- The Daily Beast – The Tragedy of Aaron Swartz
- Wired – Aaron Swartz, Coder and Activist, Dead at 26
- Cory Doctorow – RIP, Aaron Swartz
UPDATE – of course, there’s a hashtag (now added to this blogpost).
https://twitter.com/OpLastResort is their official Twitter.
Another video has been released:
ANOTHER UPDATE –
Mashable has more news: The group claims mysterious code-based “warheads”, named for each of the Supreme Court Justices, are about to be deployed….The group talks of planting “multiple warheads” on “compromised systems” on various unnamed websites, and encourages members to download a given file from ussc.gov that is “primed, armed and quietly distributed to numerous mirrors.” It has given the warhead “launch” the name of “Operation Last Resort,”
And even they’re not sure exactly what’s being proposed. So, I’m not alone in that regard.
Richard McFeely, executive assistant director of the FBI’s Criminal, Cyber, Response, and Services Branch, said the bureau was immediately aware of the threat and is “handling it as a criminal investigation.”
“We are always concerned when someone illegally accesses another person(‘s) or government agency’s network,” he said.
