A reasonable blog on atheism, religion, science and skepticism

This never fails to amaze me.
I actually attended this church for years.
And the arguments… the many, many arguments… the increasingly vapid and overextended arguments for why it’s right this time…
Please don’t explain to me how the Apostolic Succession fell on your side of every single schism and doctrinal disagreement since Paul first suggested that the church in Corinth should clean up its act. I don’t think I can take another rendition of that. Tell you what, let’s just start into a rousing chorus of “this is the song that never ends” instead. It would be more merciful.
Why was the simplified version of the chart used in the cartoon?
…Artist got tired of drawing little lines?
So it goes back to 1 AD? I thought the alleged Jesus H. Christ didn’t begin his ministry until ~ 30 AD.
You know what these guys are like when it comes to fact checking.
The earliest point I can think of is 40-70 CE, when Jewish priests and scholars of their era decided that a lot of material in the Old Testament was barbaric and offensive.
Except they underestimated just how much is barbaric & offensive.
Even more sad when you consider the kind of material they redacted – namely “the death penalty applies to EVERYTHING” and “It’s A-OK to poison your wife and kill your unborn child if you think she might be cheating on you.”
Didn’t finish that thought-
As if that shouldn’t have been obvious in the first place.
“It’s A-OK to poison your wife and kill your unborn child if you think she might be cheating on you.”
Can I get chapter and verse on this one? It would be very helpful to have in an ongoing debate I’m engaged in.
The LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, If any man’s wife go aside, and commit a trespass against him, And a man lie with her carnally, and it be hid from the eyes of her husband … and she be defiled, and there be no witness against her. Numbers 5:11-13
Then shall the man bring his wife unto the priest … And the priest shall … set her before the LORD … And he shall cause the woman to drink the bitter water. Numbers 5:15-24
When he hath made her to drink the water, then … if she be defiled, and have done trespass against her husband, … her belly shall swell, and her thigh shall rot: and the woman shall be a curse among her people. Numbers 5:27
But of course you have absolutely no idea what it really means, the ‘bitter water’ symbolism, etc. So we’ve got fundy atheist vs. fundy believer and the result? A ‘stale- mate’ from down under.
There is a better Way. Really.
Is that a monkey who says, “Jesus is so lucky to have us?” Now THAT’S funny.
