”Let me never fall into the vulgar mistake of dreaming that I am persecuted whenever I am contradicted.” —Ralph Waldo Emerson
This will be my wallpaper for a while.
Sadly, a lot of people fail to find this Waldo and his quote.
Ah, yes, whiny Christian right-wingers. Disagreeing with you does NOT equal persecution. You are not being oppressed by liberals, socialists or godless heathens. You still have your freedoms, your guns and your religion. No one is trying to silence you; nothing threatens your liberties.
You just expect everyone to think and believe exactly the same way you do, and you won’t tolerate any viewpoint besides your own. You legislate your morality and impose your beliefs on others. But to you, that’s OK… because it’s the “right” thing to do, and everyone should comply.
To you, freedom boils down to unquestioning obedience to institutional authority. And should someone dare to explore the alternatives, punishment and ostracism are often consequences of such grave insubordination.
We live in a country founded by free-thinkers, a nation that has been the crucible of innovation and progress for the entire world.
And yet your eyes gaze only toward your belly-buttons as you cry out in feigned offense; you’d rather inhibit the progress of all humanity than allow different perspectives to disrupt your perfectly ordered universe.
It is because of you, O fearful friends, that we are where we are today. And only when you find the courage to accept change will we be able to move forward.
