Killing Jesus

Oh no … please no …

After turning two presidential assassinations into best sellers, Bill O’Reilly says his next book will be about the execution of Jesus.

Killing Jesus will be published Sept. 24 using the same style and collaborator, Martin Dugard, that O’Reilly used in Killing Lincoln and Killing Kennedy.

O’Reilly announced the news Wednesday night at the end of his Fox News show, The O’Reilly Factor, saying “We’ve uncovered some interesting things about the execution of Jesus of Nazareth and how it all ties into Roman power.”

He offered no details, but told viewers, “I think you’re going to like it.”

This promises to be dreadful. Remember that O’Reilly’s book on Lincoln was so bad that the park service took it off the shelves. Now he’s entering the world of Biblical history, which is probably the most fraught area of ancient history there is.

I can’t wait to read how Obama is covering up the conspiracy.

Since O’Reilly implies that the death of Jesus had something to do with the Roman state consolidating its power, I have a feeling a lot of parallels are going to be drawn between the Romans and the evil Kenyan socialist superstate. The damn Romans tried to mandate that everybody should have clean water…

So he’ll be working from contemporary records, then? ::snerk::

Give you odds that Bill subscribes to the ‘more than one nailer’ conspiracy theory.

Raise your hand if you suspect Martin Dugard should be in the big giant letters and Bill O’Reilly should be in the little eensty beentsy tiny letters.

Given that the name of the cover probably represent O’Reilly’s entire contribution for the book, technically his name shouldn’t be there at all.

Now now, I’m sure the book will contain plenty of ill-founded opinions served as facts. Bill will be a crucial contributor.

Considering that information regarding the death of Jesus is limited, entirely, to the bible, it will be interesting to see what O’Reilly manages to invent.

They probably found something that happened elsewhere in the Roman Empire in another century and say it could have happened in Jerusalem, too. Nevermind that the Epistles were written sooner than the Gospels and they talk about the crucifixion a lot but never offer details nor even hint at a recent date.

Vorjack, you say Oh no.. Please, no, but I say yes, yes, YES!

My reasoning: This book will convince exactly zero people on the skeptical . True Believers ™ will probably put it on their coffee table to signal to visitors that they are also intellectuals. Some of the true believers will read the book, become interested in the actual histories, seek out other historians, and fall down the rabbit hole that is Biblical History. And far too often, when a believer starts dissecting their faith, they begin down the path of loosing it.

In 2010 Television One in New Zealand screened a documentary by Bryan Bruce called .”JESUS THE COLD CASE” or something as part of a book promotion. Caused a bit of a surge among the media parasites and hedge preachers here but was soon forgotten!.

“We’ve uncovered some interesting things ” Isn’t that what Donald Trump said about his investigator in Hawaii, in regard to the President’s birth?

Jim Bishop did the definitive work on the death of Jesus in “The Day Christ Died” in 1957. He also wrote “The Day Lincoln Was Shot.” He did a better job than Bill O’Reilly on both. But at least he wrote them. O’Reilly merely put his name on the top and collected the checks.

This makes me think of an article in a Horizon Magazine (Winter 1967) called “The Trial of Jesus”.

It talked about how there was absolutely no precedent in Roman history for a provincial governor to offer the people a choice of whom to set free. It also discussed how it would be silly for the representative of the then, quite powerful Roman government to acquiesce to a subjugated people and give them Barabus. This is especially unlikely as Barabus was public enemy #1 to the Romans in Judea, what with the killing of many Roman citizens and soldiers and being a violent rebel and all.

Maybe Bill will astound us and mention those things…

No document has ever been discovered that was written during the purported lifetime of Jesus, that mentions him anywhere. There is no non-biblical reference to Jesus before the second century. However, Bill O’Reilly is going to set the story straight? Don’t think so.
