Rush Rides Again

I just … I can’t deal with this …

Yes, it’s a children’s book about “exceptional Americans” in history written by Rush Limbaugh. I just have this nasty feeling I’m going to be correcting myths spread by this book for the rest of my career.

Reminds me of the time Conservapedia referred to Joe McCarthy as a great American.
I wish those ignorant of history and historiography would quit trying to do this. History, like science, is not just whatever somebody decides to write happened. Believe it or not, sources are important. Facts are important. I know, it’s one of the humanities, but it’s also one that requires you to actually get some evidence before trying to say all this crap (though they’ve been a bit slow extending that to Jesus, but people are coming around on that one).
Problem is, there’s a market for popular histories. Not fact checked, not printed in a journal, not even necessarily written by someone trained to know what they’re doing. And as long as there are people who want to remain ignorant so long as it makes them feel better about their positions, you’ll get crap like this.

I’m more likely to take every word of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter as fact before I trust Limbaugh to accurately portray history.

Does Limbaugh think his radio show is suitable for children to listen to?
