Chávez mixing politics with everything else… once more

Chávez mixing politics with everything else… once more August 20, 2007

What’s the worst thing a person can do when somebody else has gone through a tragedy and you offer to help? Expect something back or take advantage of the tragedy, right? Well, Chávez knows everything about that. Perú is complaining that the canned tuna sent to them from Venezuela in the midst of their tragedy has the picture of Hugo Chávez and the opposition Leader in Perú Ollanta Humala as well as a label that reads: “In the face of plundering, blockade, despair and chaos, solidarity with our fellow countrymen.”

Of course, paranoia is hitting Chavez’s regime once more by claiming that this is all political propaganda aimed to discredit the Venezuelan government.

This happens right after the International Baseball Federation’s (IBAF’s) decided to cancel the 13th Youth Baseball Championships, which was supposed to open August 17th in Venezuela. The reason: Venezuela refused to issue visas to Taiwanese players. The official response given by the government states that they did not issue visas to the players, because they do not hold diplomatic relations with the island, but it is suspected that it was for political reasons, since China (one of Venezuela’s allies) considers Taiwan a “rebel province.”
