Irony Test

Alright infidels.  It’s time to test how well you can detect forthcoming irony.  I give you the following fact:

A Catholic Church child safety co-ordinator who was in charge of investigating sexual abuse allegations was jailed for 12 months today…

Who was this man?

Christopher Jarvis, 49, a married father-of-four, investigated historic claims of child abuse, interviewing the victims when they were adults.  He also, as a member of the Devon and Cornwall Multi-Agency Safeguarding Team, had access to police and social services information about victims of child abuse.

Why was he tossed in jail?  Think hard (harder than a priest at a daycare) and click below the fold to find out!

He was arrested after uploading images of pre-pubescent boys on to the Ning social networking website.

Police officers who traced him to his home in Plymouth, Devon, found more than 4,000 child porn images, mainly of boys aged 10 to 12, on his church-supplied computer and a memory stick when they raided the house in Penrose Road.

The court heard that 4,389 images were found on the laptop and memory stick.

The majority, 3,721, were at Level One, the lowest level for abusive images.

But there were 120 at Level Four, which includes scenes of child rape, and 12 at Level Five, which can include scenes of torture and sadism.

Jarvis, who the court heard claimed he was abused as a child, was sentenced at the city’s crown court after admitted 12 counts of making, possessing and distributing indecent images at a previous magistrates’ court hearing.

I’m guessing most of you got an A on this test.  I wonder how Catholics would score.  If they scored the same, I wonder how they continue to be Catholics when these people, predators of children, occupy the seats of authority in the faith – at least without considering themselves enablers of evil.  I hear that even hardened criminals serving life in prison have a low estimation of people who abuse children.  What does that say of those who condone it through tithes to pedophilia’s enablers?

Bah, I figured this was a trick and I guessed wrong

Happened in Antigonish, where I live. Bishop Lahey was given the task of cleaning up the Church’s “problem”. He settled some lawsuits, and was then caught with tons of child porn on his laptop.

    • Trev

Yeh, we read the article, lol.

Just saying, change the names in the story and it could be replayed again. And honestly, I imagine it will be replayed again.

Gotta say, I really don’t like the Catholic answer to “who watches the watchmen”.

But remember, guys, this is totally just because Satan tempts the shepherds most of all to damage God’s kingdom, not because the Bible isn’t God’s word and the source of all moral goodness.

Oh, or it’s TOTALLY a way to strengthen other pastors by “God” revealing and punishing this watchdog for straying, and not further proof that God isn’t watching very hard (or does not mind pedophilia and rape much), if he exists at all.

Or it’s a terrible and grievous thing, but it just means we need to pray harder for our remaining pastors and church leaders to avoid repeating that sin (instead of holding them to real standards of scrutiny and not giving them power as if they were God’s mouthpieces on earth).

Or, they’re Catholic, so that means they’re not real Christians which is why there’s such horrible abuse. Or he’s just a sinner who was one of those hidden goats, and is being weeded out for the non-believer he obviously is.

It’s funny how easily those Christian rationalizations of priestly or pastoral sin pop back into my mind, and a bit depressing how utterly fake and terrible they sound when you’re not high on religious faith and its brain-washing.

The employment of Jarvis as investigator obviously wasn’t an accident any more than a government employee giving the okay to a federal contract to a company and then being hired by said company. I’m not equating graft to pedophilia, merely noting that it’s easier to cover a crime when one of the participants does the investigation.

Those who hired Jarvis knew what he was doing, and probably shared files with him. Those who hired him should also be investigated, I’m sure something would be found on their computers.

It really is endemic within the church isn’t it?

If I wanted to help the Catholic church out at all I’d suggest appointing someone independent to sort out their mess. I don’t want to help them though. I believe that they are doing an excellent job of destroying themselves and the faster this happens the fewer people will ultimately be harmed by them.

Not being into (!) young boys, I wonder if I’m missing out on something. It’s obviously quite popular with unmarried adult males. Being an unmarried adult male myself, I’m starting to feel the peer pressure.

“But an older boy made me do it officer”

Oh then again, probably a bad choice of words in this case…

Try again, charlie. Molestation happens to boys for the same reason rape happens to men in men’s prisons. It’s not about preference towards the victim’s gender, it’s a matter of access and availability.

      http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1556756

“[T]he ratio of heterosexual to homosexual pedophiles was calculated to be approximately 11:1. This suggests that the resulting proportion of true pedophiles among persons with a homosexual erotic development is greater than that in persons who develop heterosexually.”

An 11:1 ratio means gays make up 1 out of 12 pedophiles, or 8.33%. 10-15% of the general population are gay, so that means homosexuals are less likely and heterosexuals more likely to be one.

Read the research: girls are 50% of children but make up 75% of the victims. Why would gay men prefer girls if it were a “gay crime”? And as pointed out in the quote below, prepubescent boys have “feminine qualities” which is part of what appeals to heterosexuals.

      http://www.internationalorder.org/scandal_response.html

Homosexuality and homosexual pedophilia are not synonymous. In fact, it may be that these two orientations are mutually exclusive, the reason being that the homosexual male is sexually attracted to masculine qualities whereas the heterosexual male is sexually attracted to feminine characteristics, and the sexually immature child’s qualities are more feminine than masculine. . . . The child offender who is attracted to and engaged in adult sexual relationships is heterosexual. It appears, therefore, that the adult heterosexual male constitutes a greater sexual risk to underage children than does the adult homosexual male.

There are altar girls? And who the hell is Charlie?

I don’t care about research or the general population, I was commenting on this particular blog post, where an adult male was (probably literally) into little boys. And quite probably saying “Oh, my God!” in the process, and “Bless you, my son.” afterwards.

He was arrested after uploading images of pre-pubescent boys on to the Ning social networking website.

Police officers who traced him to his home in Plymouth, Devon, found more than 4,000 child porn images, mainly of boys aged 10 to 12 …

So, what do the statistics say about the gender of abuse victims of catholic priests?

  • The Lorax

I scored an A+ after the “following fact.”

This is getting too easy, guys.

  • B-Lar

Item number 13 from The Hobo Code:

“Do not allow other hobos to molest children, expose all molesters to authorities, they are the worst garbage to infest any society.”

Hobo’s know the score. Priests dont even pay attention to the game.

  • Shaun

This is the first time I’ve ever in my life thought, “Child abuse, child abuse, child abuse, YES!” I’m not sure what that says about me.
