Skepticon 4 Thread

The god virus has gotten into the FtB servers during the upgrade and things are still a little hairy while the techies attempt to exorcise it, so I’m not posting anything of great import lest it disappear.  Ed warned us that if things got worse we may have to have the level 3 techie’s mom go down to the basement and wake him up, and it looks like we’re getting to that point.

So, in the meantime, who is going to Skepticon next weekend?  What speakers are you dying to meet/hear?  There will be a FtB Atheists in the Pub either Friday or Saturday night with myself, PZ, Ed, Greta, Jen, and Richard Carrier – who can I expect to meet there?

Skepticon peeps talk amongst yourselves.  I’ll keep an eye on things throughout the day.  :)

About JT Eberhard

When not defending the planet from inevitable apocalypse at the rotting hands of the undead, JT is a writer and public speaker about atheism, gay rights, and more. He spent two and a half years with the Secular Student Alliance as their first high school organizer. During that time he built the SSA’s high school program and oversaw the development of groups nationwide. JT is also the co-founder of the popular Skepticon conference and served as the events lead organizer during its first three years.

I’ll be there with about 8 or so others from various place around cental Ark. Had a blast last year and can’t wait for next weekend!

I’d like to go, but I can’t get a passport in a week.

I remember fondly the days when all I needed was proof of citizenship. when a trip to the US was as easy as driving across the NB/Maine border.

    Ah… Memories

    Driving in from Dayton

  • VonRoyer

I was wanting to see Dave Silverman, but they put him on when I’m going to be driving down!

This is going to be my third Skepticon, and first year I’m getting a hotel room so that I can stay and have some drinks afterwards.

The Bearded One and I will be there on Friday for the museum Zerg; very much looking forward to seeing everyone again!

  • John Eberhard

I’m looking forward to Saturday and Sunday, meeting Jen and Ed, and once again visiting with Greta, PZ, Richard, and that Eberhard guy.

The girlfriend and I are coming down on Friday with a couple of her friends for the museum trip. This is my first Skepticon, I’m so excited!

I don’t remember last year’s pub night, for obvious reasons… but I came out of the whole ordeal with great friends. I’ll be there again.

I’ll be there Thursday night through Monday morning! I’m most excited to see PZ and Dave Silverman and other folks I’ve not seen/met before, but I’m also looking forward to seeing Rebecca Watson and JT again. As a San Franciscan and Atheist Film Fest organizer I get to see a lot of David Fitzgerald and Greta Christina, but I’ll be happy to support them on stage! Oh, and drinking with everyone.

I’m flying into St. Louis on Wednesday afternoon to spend some time with my parents. Then my college roommate is flying in from Chicago and we’re driving down Thursday night. Heading back to St. Louis Monday morning. (Does anyone need a ride?)

Well, that wasn’t supposed to be a threaded response. I’ll blame the error on my eagerness.

  • Alix

Whoo! We’ll be getting to Missouri late Thursday night, and I am far too excited! Whoo! Excited for everyone, obviously, but mostly for the cuddliest atheist ever.

  • martha

Going. Never been. A little anxious about whether it’s going to turn out to be worth the long drive (9 hrs.), & leaving the family for the weekend & all.

  • Peggy

I’ll be there, but I’m 61 years old and boring as hell. At least this time I’m flying not driving from Ohio, so I should be much less exhausted from the trip than I was last year. Cheers!

      8-)

I’m 65 and boring as hell. Need a ride to or from St. Louis?

      • Peggy

        No, I don’t. Wish I did. ;)
        See you in Springfield!

  • Peggy

    @Martha–Yes, it’s totally worth it!

  • MathMike

I’ll be getting in Thursday night. I haven’t decided if I want to go back to the “museum” again. I stopped in one day this summer and had my own personal 45 minute guided tour. I’m leaning toward the nature museum south of town.

    • Peggy

Getting a real tour by PZ Myers with the Skepticon hoard would be a different experience, though. (I’m coming in Thursday night, too.)

  • http://Templeofthefuture.net James Croft

I’ll be there, speaking on a panel with Greta Christina and Eliezer Yudkowsky – I’m super-excited! It will be my first Skepticon!

  • Michaelyn

We’re bring over 30 from Lawrence, KS up on Friday. It’s gonna rock.
