Birthday Card For Damon Fowler

Katie Hartman, the swanky gal who took over the spot of lead organizer for Skepticon 4 (and who hit it out of the park, I may add), is putting together an online birthday card for Damon Fowler.  Damon was the incredibly brave student who stood up to the entire community of Bastrop, LA which, shock and surprise, was full of people eager to break the law for Jesus.

Thanks for linking this. I drove over to Bastrop that night with “For Damon” written on my car, and I was freaking terrified.

    From reddit (not me):

I work at a restaurant that hosted many large parties that came from the bastrop graduation. would anyone like to guess the topic of conversation at every table? it was about that damn atheist kid. You would not believe the cruel things they were saying, one customer even said he knew a great place on the river to dump a his body. At the end of the dinner one of the guest turned to me and said ” aint it awesome how those kids stood up and said the prayer anyway? isnt jesus great?” This is the part where i should have bit my tounge but enough is enough. ” Well mam you see im an atheist, and i think it was awesome how one lone student stood up to an entire community. I dont think its awesome how an entire community ganged up on one kid.” i received no tip and 3 of the guest left without paying. as if this were not bad enough they all complained to my manager and said they were never coming back. I would have lost my job if i was not so damn good at it ;) well anyway just wanted to let you guys know that not everyone in louisiana is closed minded and ignorant

Hi, I’d like to say thanks for the support! That really means a lot to me. Also, I never saw this person’s comment, but I would like to know who it was. I didn’t pay much attention to my own situation or the comments on the Reddit submissions. Thanks for bringing this up though.
