Reason Rally road trip

Alliteration in blog titles ftw.

On March 21, Michaelyn and I will be road-tripping to Washington DC for the Reason Rally.  We plan to make a day out of it and to live blog our adventures.

Do you guys know of anything we shouldn’t miss between Columbus and DC?  Anybody wanna meet up for lunch/dinner along the way?

We also plan to hit the Smithsonian on the 22nd along with Christina, her hubby Chris, and also with Adam and Amanda Brown of Atheism Resource and We Are Atheism fame.  Triple atheist date!

Update and pics from #AACon15. MST3K cast members were at my talk.
PERSONAL: Mid day lab pics from the wife.
PERSONAL: The corrupting power of fame and my love for my commenters.
PERSONAL: Sorry to disappoint you, Julian.

My brother and I are planning to stop by the Smithsonian’s Art of Video Games exhibit on 3/25. Might be interesting, if you’re into video games..

      Art of video games???

      Holy crap, must go!

      • Daniel

I was sad when I first heard about the exhibit, as I couldn’t justify driving the 400 miles. Right after I decided to attend the Rally (after hearing that Tim Minchin would be performing, I realized that the dates matched up. I freaked out. ^_^

Man, I didn’t realize that the Art of Video Games exhibit coincided with Reason Rally. I was planning on going to that with my ex. Hmm…Reason Rally *and* video games. This should be awesome.

Oh, I might have to see this too.

If the Air and Space museum is your thing, you might also check out the Smithsonian’s Udvar-Hazy center. Its 40 minutes away, but has a ton of stuff they couldn’t fit in the regular museum. Like an SR-71 blackbird. The Enola Gay. And the space shuttle Enterprise.

I’m also a fan of the International Spy Museum. Good gift shop and its right in Gallery place, so its near tons of good restaurants. That one you have to pay for though – its not part of the Smithsonian.

Not along the way, but I would cheerfully meet up for lunch/dinner once you hit D.C.

  • Amanda Brown

Can’t wait! Super excited! :) We’ll hit DC around noon and hit you guys up to see where you are :)

    • Michaelyn

      So excited!!

Gonna do a little partner “swaping”? LOL!

The thought makes me puke but I though maybe you were all into “open relatonships” and all that stuff.

  • John-Henry Beck

Aww. I won’t be getting to D.C. until the afternoon of the 22nd. Planning on a Smithsonian trip on Friday the 23rd, before the rally.

I guess it’s likely that place is going to be swarmed by atheists on various days around that weekend, though.

I am really excited that Reason Rally takes place during the Cherry Blossom Festival. (I spent a year teaching English in Japan and have fond memories of the cherry blossoms blooming).

The peak bloom date is hard to predict so actual blossom viewing may or may not be something worth doing while in Washington, but there are festival activities that might be worth checking out if you are into that kind of thing.

JT, since you are all about haikus, I thought I should draw your attention to the fact that on the 22nd, there is a haiku event. Maybe someone there would be up for a haiku challenge!

I’m going to be coming down from Philadelphia with most of our little poly family on Friday, (3/23). Being that we are both atheist bloggers who are polyamorous, I thought it might be fun to hang out especially since we may already know some of the same people from the wider skeptical community. Perhaps we could all get some drinks Friday afternoon/evening or whatever? The 4 of us will be arriving sometime in the afternoon, I’m guessing, and will be doing something along those lines already.

If you think you have the time and inclination, email me and I will give you other contact info.
