it's not all doom and gloom

JT said I should put a picture at the top of posts. I countered that then somebody might recognize me, and no good could come from that. That would reduce my ability to sit quietly in the back.

Does this count?

I’m in there somewhere.

Now with that over with, I did come across a piece of news that wasn’t depressing. A rare feat given that Santorum is still running for president.

What I did find, is the hero we need.

When Batman finally reached the elevator for the slow ride up to the cancer ward, I could see his face already sweating behind the mask. He told me he loses 5 to 6 pounds in water weight when he wears the superhero uniform. He paid $5,000 for it. He spends $25,000 a year of his own money on Batman toys and memorabilia. He signs every book, hat, T-shirt and backpack he hands out — Batman.

That’s right. Sometimes the world is a shitty place. Sometimes the world makes no sense, and the nightly news is nothing but frustration.

And some days you find out the goddamn Batman is lifting the spirits of kids with cancer.

::bounces:: Wasn’t that the greatest story EVER? And it’s near me too.

Sometimes, if you’re paying attention, people don’t entirely suck.

  • Katherine Lorraine, Chaton de la Mort

As cheesy as this is going to sound:

You don’t have to beat up bad guys or arrest criminals to be a superhero. This guy, this Batman, is a real superhero, cause he brings joy and excitement to children in need.

The sad thing is, I can very easily see DC Comics or whoever it is that currently holds the copyrights to the character, stepping in and issuing a nasty “cease and desist.”

  • Drew Whalen

Stories like this always make me tear up a bit. I guess I just see so much horrible shit in the world, that when I see something sweet like this, I’m overcome with emotion. That’s the hero those kids deserve.
