Oh America

Here’s a positively lunatic rant by pastor Bill Ledbetter.

Which he gave, by invitation, to the Oklahoma House of Representatives.  From a faith-drunk populace comes faith-drunk leaders.

This is what happens when politicians lie to pander for votes: people actually start believing that our nation owes Christianity jack squat.  They start believing that these men they idolize, who wanted to form a nation that exalted Christianity, somehow forgot to put any mention of that religion or its god in the founding document of the nation.  Biggest faux pas ever.

The ideas oozing out of this man’s brain/mouth are transparently false to anybody with a cursory understanding/education of American history, which may tempt us to let them slide.  But we shouldn’t.  The rank stupidity of an idea, in America, is no assurance that it will not be picked up by the same portion of the population who think someone rose from the dead 2,000 years ago.  We must rebut even poorly-cloaked bullshit.

So let’s start a campaign for the Skepticon V team to bring Ed Brayton to the next Skepticon to do a talk rebutting the Christian nation people!  Yes, the ideas are below Ed’s skill level, but I imagine such a talk would become like Krauss’ A Universe From Nothing as on of those go-to videos that helps lay this aggravating and insipid subject to rest.

It looks like American sceptics have spent so much blood & treasure fighting against the anti-biology column that the anti-history column of the anti-science brigade has infiltrated successfully without much opposition.

    Biggest feux pas ever.

My french is quite poor, but as far as I remember “le feux” means traffic light and costs 135 EUR if it shows a red light when you pass it.
    How I know that? Well … ;-)

Hey, I’d love to give a talk on that subject at Skepticon this year.

  • G.Shelley

Is all that nonsense and misinformation from David Barton, or does he get his lies from multiple sources?

  • physioprof

What a disgusting lying subhuman scumbagge this fucken motherfucker is.

  • http://freethoughtblogs.com/dispatches Ed Brayton

Wow, there is some serious bullshit in there. It’s a complete distortion of the infamous Lutz study, which actually concludes the exact opposite of what the wingnuts claim. And he has the equally infamous fake quote from Patrick Henry, which is especially ironic in the middle of a speech about the Christian glory of the Constitution since Henry was opposed to the passage of that document, at least in part because it was not officially Christian.

    • Pteryxx

For instance, I didn’t know that quote was fake or ironic until Ed spelled it out just now. Please, y’all, KEEP EXPLAINING THIS STUFF.

    • Celeste

You giving a talk on this subject might actually force me to save the money to fly out and see it.

  • Pteryxx

*raises hand* Just so y’all remember, it’s not just the faithaholics who have a piss-poor understanding of history. I was never a believer, but I still have learned more about history from reading FTB than I ever got from American schooling, media, or culture, all the way through postgraduate work. Lots of us openminded folks still suffer from horrendous education.

Aww, he loves me! Or does he only love the legislators? I couldn’t tell.

    I don’t love him.

  • http://www.facebook.com/mchughdj danielmchugh

I had to pause the video at about the two minute mark until the dipshittery sank in all the way. “Not on the basis of religion but on the basis of Christianity?” Since when is Christianity not a religion? Somebody help me… I can’t seem to remove my palm from my face. It’s getting in the way of the whiskey I need to make any sense of this whacko.

How come god spared the gay section of New Orleans while flooding the poor believers. The road to hell in this world is paved with the spittle of mindless preachers.

Pastor Bill Ledbetter speaks the truth. We should listen to him. If you don’t believe in God, there’s only one other option and it isn’t a good one. At least be respectful in your ignorant comments.

    • http://freethoughtblogs.com/wwjtd JT Eberhard

He didn’t provide a shred of evidence. Do you have any?

      • IslandBrewer

Given that Warren’s blog has articles like “Obama’s Birth Certificate a Forgery”, I’d say evidence is not his strong suit.

    • Anteprepro

At least be respectful in your ignorant comments.

      Hypocritical, much?

It’s amazing how typical this is. Of Christians and/or tone trolls. They contradict themselves or break their own “rules” within the span of a single post, sometimes a single paragraph, sometimes a single sentence. Simply pathetic.
