Oh America

Here’s a positively lunatic rant by pastor Bill Ledbetter.

Which he gave, by invitation, to the Oklahoma House of Representatives.  From a faith-drunk populace comes faith-drunk leaders.

This is what happens when politicians lie to pander for votes: people actually start believing that our nation owes Christianity jack squat.  They start believing that these men they idolize, who wanted to form a nation that exalted Christianity, somehow forgot to put any mention of that religion or its god in the founding document of the nation.  Biggest faux pas ever.

The ideas oozing out of this man’s brain/mouth are transparently false to anybody with a cursory understanding/education of American history, which may tempt us to let them slide.  But we shouldn’t.  The rank stupidity of an idea, in America, is no assurance that it will not be picked up by the same portion of the population who think someone rose from the dead 2,000 years ago.  We must rebut even poorly-cloaked bullshit.

So let’s start a campaign for the Skepticon V team to bring Ed Brayton to the next Skepticon to do a talk rebutting the Christian nation people!  Yes, the ideas are below Ed’s skill level, but I imagine such a talk would become like Krauss’ A Universe From Nothing as on of those go-to videos that helps lay this aggravating and insipid subject to rest.
