Why do I read comments on news stories?  I suspect I may have some deep-seeded masochist tendencies to which I should probably apprise Michaelyn.

The Bible is not religion. It’ started out as Atheism in the first place. You can’t be secular if you don’t have a Bible. It’s the history of Western Civilization and Culutre.

There’s so much wrong compacted into such a tiny space it’s like a wrong black hole.

About JT Eberhard

When not defending the planet from inevitable apocalypse at the rotting hands of the undead, JT is a writer and public speaker about atheism, gay rights, and more. He spent two and a half years with the Secular Student Alliance as their first high school organizer. During that time he built the SSA’s high school program and oversaw the development of groups nationwide. JT is also the co-founder of the popular Skepticon conference and served as the events lead organizer during its first three years.

If the Bible is atheist, I’m going back to religion.

If I facepalm any harder it will probably do serious damage.

  • Nick

I believe “deep-seated” is the correct term.

  • Zinc Avenger

That makes perfect sense. The commenter wrote that with the clear assumption that words have no fixed meanings, and he or she can arbitrarily change, or even invert them, without notice or warning. Therefore I take it to be an insightful and moving treatise on human nature.

  • Mr.Kosta

As the French would say: “Le Phuck?*”

*Not an actual word in French.

That particular commenter (who wrote more than one comment) is decidedly in the minority. And also appears to be a major loon — check out some of his (I think it’s his) other comments. They’re basically word salad. I would almost suspect a ‘bot here.

  • Randomfactor

Well, early Christians were known as atheists because they didn’t believe in the Roman gods.

It’s not too late! Zeus welcomes you all back!

  • Rando

Wow, this is so dumb it desperately needs an appropriate response.

  • Randomfactor

As the blind man said, holding the matzoh–”Who wrote this crap?”

What this rally is a manipulation by US Muslims the way they’ve operated especially in the days of RaMBaM.

… before continuing on to the above.

ef it, the cognitive dissonance is just impressive. Written either by Wheatly or the greatest poe ever to walk the earth.

…have you seen my jaw? I dropped it.

  • N. Nescio

If this is the most noteworthy example of news website comment idiocy you have come across recently, you’re a lucky man. Sometimes I have to force myself to stop reading and close the browser before my head explodes from the stupid.

  • kieran

I get the feeling that this person mistook the foundation of the Abramhic religions with buddism? Or am really giving them far more credit than they deserve

  • Adam

Well, I wouldn’t be secular without a Bible. I was religious because my parents were. Then I started reading the Bible…it made me wonder “Why the hell do I believe this crap?”

  • Clarissa

Yeah, it was written by JEWS!
