Time to put on my game face

Holy balls!!!

I just took another peek at the schedule for the Freethought Festival in Madison this weekend.  Look at the session I’m in…

I guess I should be happy that the Confronting Religion session is so strong.  But seriously?  I’m in the same block with PZ Myers, Hemant Mehta, Matt Dillahunty, Valerie Tarico, and Richard Carrier?  You might as well ask me to suit up for the NFL as long as you’re placing me entirely out of my league.

Alright JT, it’s go time!  Game face, activate!  PZ Myers will sweat because he has to follow me!

Grrrrrr!  Best talk ever.  Let’s do this!

About JT Eberhard

When not defending the planet from inevitable apocalypse at the rotting hands of the undead, JT is a writer and public speaker about atheism, gay rights, and more. He spent two and a half years with the Secular Student Alliance as their first high school organizer. During that time he built the SSA’s high school program and oversaw the development of groups nationwide. JT is also the co-founder of the popular Skepticon conference and served as the events lead organizer during its first three years.

Ok. I kinda need you to stop with the “I’m not worthy” babble. lol

You come from a different angle and hit differently. The combat styles are different, like that of MMA. There is a mix of Brazilian jiu-jitsu, kickboxing, karate, judo, wrestling, muay Thai, etc. All the techniques can destroy the opponent. Mix them together as a machine, and it is unstoppable. I think of you as the grappler. You pull them in, tie them up, finishing them off with a ground and pound until they pass out, are knocked out or submit. It may not look are elegant as judo, as powerful as karate, or as devastating as muay Thai; but by the end of it as the victim lays there moaning. They are not focusing on the style so much as the over all ass kicking that was laid upon them.

As I have stated before. You are our voice.

Oh you’re so lucky! You get to see Valerie! Wish I could make it. :(

Um… JT, can you tell her Mriana said, “Hi” please? She knows who I am. :) Thanks.

I’m only going to say this once, JT*: you are not out of your league.

*I may be lying for rhetorical effect on this part. Not about the part after it, though.

Naw, don’t sweat it: your topic is an excellent one and there will be a lot of atheists there — particularly newcomers to the ‘movement’ — who will be especially looking forward to it, specifically. If the subject is kick-ass, then it will reflect back onto you.

So don’t worry too much about performance. Be clear, specific, and informative and you automatically win minds and hearts (which is the order for atheist audiences.) Anything else is whipped cream and a cherry.
