A new dawn for Sodomerica

Christina here…

Let’s talk about this editorial in the Washington Post Times about Obama and his “homosexual agenda”.

I’m sure you know President Obama recently came out in support of same-sex marriage. Woo!

Of course, this marks the end of America as we know it. The whole framework of our country is going to be destroyed now. We may as well rename our country Sodomerica.

On to the editorial:

President Obama has made it official: He now supports same-sex marriage. It is his latest onslaught on traditional America. Mr. Obama has made history. He is our first commander in chief to openly embrace legalizing homosexual and lesbian unions. He has crossed a cultural watershed, paving the way for the eventual triumph of the homosexual agenda. Rather than being a victory for “civil rights” or “marital equality,” Mr. Obama’s decision puts America on the path to moral disintegration. We are one step closer to becoming like secular, post-Christian Europe.

“Traditional America” my ass. America is an evolving, changing country, full of diversity of religion, sexuality, opinions, language, culture… your Traditional America doesn’t exist anywhere except in your own mind, and you hate what real America is.

Moral disintegration how?  In the past thirty years, crime in Europe is up, while crime in the US is down. That’s true. However attributing this to secularization or post-Christianity doesn’t make sense given the data. You’re insinuating causation where there is none. In fact, we generally find the opposite: that secular countries tend to have lower crime rates and higher rates of other measures of population health. The more secular a country, the lower its homicide, abortion, STI’s, infant mortality, teen pregnancy, and the higher per capita income, education rates, and personal relationships. Obviously, Europe is an outlier in that respect, but clearly, that’s not due to gay marriage or secularism.

Why not use Sweden as an example? We’re one step closer to becoming like secular, post-Christian Sweden, where we can enjoy low crime rates, low levels of abortion, great healthcare, lower levels of suicide, etc. That sounds awesome! Let’s be more like Sweden.

For years, Mr. Obama claimed his position was “evolving.” Facing re-election and under growing pressure from liberal interest groups, especially the powerful homosexual lobby, he finally capitulated. His decision was not based on principle, but cynical politics. Mr. Obama needs the gay and lesbian vote to win in November. Immediately upon his announcement Wednesday, Hollywood donors opened their checkbooks. Millions were pumped into the Obama campaign coffers; the liberal base has been energized, and the cultural left is hailing Mr. Obama as the Martin Luther King of our time. The president believes it is an electoral masterstroke.

Yes. usually when a president says something favorable to a certain person or group of people, and they have the money to support him, they will. This happens with every president.  Anytime a president makes any decision at all, one can level a charge that he’s “playing politics”. Yawn. He can’t possibly note the fact that most American support same-sex marriage, and decide that he should too, because that’s what America wants. He couldn’t have possibly looked at the arguments and realized bans on same-sex marriage are wrong.

Instead, he has made a big mistake. Same-sex marriage is opposed by most Americans. On Tuesday, North Carolina became the 31st state to vote for a constitutional amendment defining marriage as between one man and one woman. The referendum was not even close: More than 60 percent of voters supported Amendment One. The liberal media, such as the New York Times, consistently portray anti-gay-marriage advocates as bigots.

Same sex marriage is not opposed by most Americans, you liar. Most Americans are in favor of same-sex marriage. The margin is narrow, for sure, but still there.

This is nonsense. Most Americans are neither intolerant nor bigoted.

Yeah, they are, actually.

Rather, they understand that marriage is the basic institution of society. For thousands of years in the West, it has had a privileged role. Marriage solidifies the bonds between a man and a woman, laying the foundation for raising children in stable families. It is the glue that binds a functioning, viable social order. Marriage is the natural unit that enables society to perpetuate itself from one generation to the next. This is not hate; it’s common sense.

Yes, a basic institution of society that same-sex couples should be able to take part in. A privileged role same-sex couples should share in. Marriage solidifies the bond between two consenting people, laying the foundation for raising children and stable families. Marriage is cool and great, and won’t be weakened by allowing people with similar genitals to do it too. The hate is when you think marriage is awesome, but that gay marriage will fuck up heterosexual marriage. The hate is when you think that same-sex marriage will unglue society instead of strengthen it.

It is why, for example, the drive to ban same-sex marriage in North Carolina was led by black pastors and churches. It also is why the black and Hispanic vote was pivotal to passing California’s Proposition 8, which also upholds traditional marriage. Blacks and Hispanics – although key Democratic voting blocs – tend to be deeply Christian and socially conservative. Mr. Obama has put himself on a collision course with large segments of his base. He has kissed away major swing states, such as North Carolina and Virginia. He also is further alienating Middle America, which still believes in pro-family values. In short, Mr. Obama is committing political suicide.

Well, if he’s committing political suicide, that’s good for you, right? Then he won’t get re-elected. Shouldn’t you be thanking him? If everyone hates the idea of gay marriage so much, then everyone will kick him out of office.

I bet if Obama came out against same-sex marriage, you’d accuse him of “pandering to the right” to try to “win votes in this election”.

Yet the same-sex-marriage issue is more important than simple politics. It is about the future of America’s civilization. Within hours of Amendment One’s victory, the pro-homosexual-marriage forces announced they would sue to block North Carolina’s constitutional ban. In other words, they repeated the Proposition 8 model: Circumvent defeat at the ballot box by asking leftist judges to trump the democratic will of the people. This is judicial tyranny masquerading as civil rights – a naked attempt by a minority to impose its neo-pagan immorality upon the majority. The homosexual agenda is a manifestation of the totalitarian impulse at the heart of liberalism: the desire by a ruling cartel to impose a social revolution from above.

I can’t help but recall that this same thing happened with anti-miscegenation laws. The will of voters was to keep black people from marrying white people. “pro-miscegenation forces” had to sue, circumventing the ballot box by asking leftist judges to trump the will of the people. Judicial tyranny masquerading as civil rights – naked attempt by the minority, neo-pagan immorality, totalitatian impulse, cartel from above, blah blah blah.

See, you’re not actually addressing the issue or arguments regarding gay marriage, just using scary words. You could say the same thing anytime anyone sues to block citizen vote.

Sometimes the will of the people is wrong.

Every major religious faith – Christianity, Islam, Orthodox Judaism – teaches that homosexuality is an abomination. Homosexual behavior, especially sodomy, is unnatural and immoral. It is absurd, bordering on social madness, to elevate gay and lesbian relationships to the sanctified status of marriage – a form of moral anarchy characterized by radical individualism, hedonism and sexual liberation. Same-sex marriage is a symptom of cultural decay.

Those religions are wrong. Also, heterosexual people have the buttsecks too. There’s nothing unnatural about putting your bits in the ass of another, and nothing immoral about it either. Also, not all gay people do the buttsecks.

Funny how religious people used the same arguments against miscegenation. It’s like we’re back in the 1950′s. At least same-sex relationships aren’t a felony.

Our Judeo-Christian ancestors understood something that postmodern liberals do not: The primary purpose of sexual activity is to procreate – to have children – within the boundaries of marriage. Romantic love, personal fulfillment, burning passion – all of these things are nice, but secondary to the real purpose and mission of marriage. Secular liberals are engaged in social engineering. They are fostering the myth that women and men are the same and interchangeable. According to Mr. Obama, a child needs two committed and loving parents – regardless of their gender. This is fantasy. A child needs a committed mother and father. Women and men are profoundly different; they have distinct natures, with unique biological, emotional and psychological characteristics. It is the fusion of these two divergent genders that provides the balance and harmony necessary for the healthy development of children. Hence, same-sex “marriage” is an oxymoron. It is akin to redefining gravity: an act of hubris destined to fail.

Let’s not allow people to get married if they are too old, infertile, or don’t want to have kids. After all, those kinds of marriages go against the “mission” of marriage.

p.s. Gay people can make babies, too.

We’re fostering the myth that women and men are interchangeable. They aren’t. But they are equally capable of raising children. Or would you like to make it illegal to be a single parent?

There is no necessity in having a mother and father to raise a child. Otherwise, we’d see all of these single-parent children dying in gutters.

For decades, liberals – aided and abetted by the popular culture – have been bringing homosexuality into the mainstream. It is slowly being promoted in public schools and constantly being glamorized in television shows and movies. The more the homosexual agenda is spread, the more militant its advocates become. They no longer want toleration. They seek full social acceptance. Once marriage falls, only one institution will be left standing in their way: traditional Christianity. The ultimate aim of the radical left has been to destroy religion – especially Western Christendom. Once a religion dies, so does the culture and civilization it spawned. America is at a crossroads, enmeshed in a cultural war with homosexual advocates like Mr. Obama who are determined to strike at the very nexus of our civilization.

Toleration would be to lift bans on same-sex marriage. Marriage will not fall if bans on same-sex marriage are lifted. I do not feel like my marriage is being threatened by gay marriage. We don’t see the countries in which same sex marriage is legal crumbling to the ground. We see them excelling. You don’t care about statistics and reality. You don’t care that same-sex marriage isn’t destroying other countries. If you did, you’d actually look up some statistics and facts, rather than use scary phrases to talk about how gay marriage will destroy everything.

Correction, it’s the Moonie paper, the Washington Times, not the Washington Post.

Our Judeo-Christian ancestors understood something that postmodern liberals do not: The primary purpose of sexual activity is to procreate – to have children – within the boundaries of marriage.

“Purpose” requires intent, which in turn requires agency. The only agents involved in sexual activity are the people fucking (also, don’t tell these guys about masturbation, manual sex, oral sex, anal sex, toys, or birth control – apparently sex with zero chance of procreation simply doesn’t exist in their worldviews), and so they’re the only ones capable of assigning a “purpose” to the sex they’re having. I understand that the purpose of sex can be procreation, if that’s the view of the parties involved, but YOU, asshat, don’t understand that it can not-be. The failure of understanding is yours, not mine. (Yes, yes, I know, Yahweh says; someone has yet to explain to me why, even were Yahweh real, I should care in the slightest what he wants, keeping in mind that trying to coerce my behavior by way of reward/punishment systems simply doesn’t work very well, and frequently not at all.)

Mr. Obama needs the gay and lesbian vote to win in November.

    You mean “the anti-bigot vote”.

This is judicial tyranny masquerading as civil rights

As opposed to tyrannical bigotry masquerading as democracy.

a naked attempt by a minority to impose its neo-pagan immorality upon the majority.

As opposed to the naked attempt by the majority to impose its bigoted religious dogma upon the minority.

“Romantic love, personal fulfillment, burning passion – all of these things are nice, but secondary to the real purpose and mission of marriage.”

I read that and all I could think was, “What a sad, sad life you must lead.” While they are not actually requirements for marriage, suggesting they rank somehow below everybody’s mission to continue overpopulating the planet is pretty miserable a way of thinking. It’s not horrible, per se, but it’s rather the reaction I give to people who insist that no, they really *do* like having carrots for dessert more than chocolate, it’s not just a health thing.

“It is akin to redefining gravity: an act of hubris destined to fail.”

My thought to this one: “Isn’t gravity ‘just a theory’? Shouldn’t it be re-definable, like human biological origins are according to you guys?” Sorry, it’s a bad joke, but it made me snicker to think about.

As to the last paragraph you quoted, Ceiling Cat preserve me do I wish that was the case! Seriously, all we need to get is get gay marriage and at least this idiot’s brand of Christianity goes away forever (considering he doesn’t consider liberal Christians to be “Christians”, I’m not sure if it applies to them)? Makes me want to collect more petitions and get this show on the road! It’s like the time I got a kiss for being brave enough to perform in front of people at an SCA event: not only did I get to play music, I got a kiss out of it, too. Win-win.

This stuff just kills me. Everyone knows that marriage as we practice it now in the US bears little resemblance to marriage as practiced in the Bible (or by various cultures around the world today).

    We don’t do polygamy.
We don’t say (or hold up as an ideal) that wives are the property of their husbands.
    We don’t marry off children.
    We don’t do arranged marriage.
We believe that romantic love is a crucial factor in successful marriages.

These are all big changes. And while I’m sure there are those people who believe woman SHOULD BE their husbands’ property, that’s not something our culture as a whole believes.

We have “changed the definition of marriage” forever.

The bigots know this—they just have to—but they ignore it when convenient. And so we get the “marriage as it’s been understood by everyone for 3,000 years” nonsense.

The comment section for that editorial is so vile I can’t decide whether I want to scream or vomit.

Christina, apologies in advance for being that guy, but you’ve got a misplaced apostrophe in the sentence that starts like this:

The more secular a country, the lower it’s homicide…

As a small side note, I couldn’t help but notice that it’s written “Mr. Obama.” If any article by a leftist referred to a “Mr. Bush” or *gasp* “Mr. Reagan”, I think the right would be all over it as being unpatriotic liberal vitriol. Not really relevant, it just popped into my head.

I wonder if this guy realizes that most homosexuals came from the nice heterosexual couples that are so intrinsic to the “normal” development of children.
As for the assertion that civilizations and cultures crumble along with their religion, perhaps this man should take a look at the Romans. They abandoned their religion in favor of christianity under Constantine, and they continued for at least a couple centuries afterwards.

Wow, these are some scary terrorists. Thy seek… full social acceptance!
And if they obtain it, civilisation will collapse! Somehow.
