Tim Minchin to be in Jesus Christ Superstar revival!

Tim Minchin in a revival.  Tee hee!

Anyway, as Jason Thibeault reports, Minchin will be playing the role of Judas (tee hee)!  I’m not going to lie, I’d kill a man in front of his own mother for a video of Tim singing “Heaven On Their Minds.”

Jason is right when he says that it’s hard to imagine anybody coming close to Carl Anderson in the role of Judas, though Tim has the talent to do it.  But who will be the Jesus?  Several great options spring to mind.  How about John Farnham?

Just take a listen to him at 2:25-3:20 to see what this popera tenor is capable of.

Or there’s Steve Balsamo.  A great singer, though not the god-like tenor that Farnham is.  But he’s young and a phenomenal actor (which doesn’t always accompany a great voice :P).  He also wouldn’t even need a wig.

Or, how about ME!!!  I’ve got the range to do it!

We could have an outspoken atheist Judas AND Jesus!!!  And, y’know…I could endure sharing a stage with Tim…

Turns out it’s open competition for the part.

The character of Jesus will be cast via a television talent competition next month, where contestants will compete for the lead role in the musical telling the story of Christ’s final week.

Hrm, I have some vacation time saved up…

Sometimes I miss performing.  Speaking is awesome, but it’s a different beast.  It’s just walking up on stage and being sincere while you talk about things that make sense to you.  Acting, singing, taking on a role and completely putting yourself into someone else’s shoes to tell a story through music is a rush that I very much miss sometimes.  It’s the chance to not be you, and to experience things that soar beyond the normalcy of life (and my life is pretty grand).

Good thing saving the world is so much fun – and I get to do it for a living!  :)
