Daily Guild Wars 2: RP. (29 days left!)

Godless Guild facebook group.

Codex site where you can toy with profession builds.

My Guild Wars 2 review (for those wondering what all the fuss is about).

Sweet guild page/forum.

Godless is coming together beautifully!  The officer core is grabbing this by the horns and we’re still seeing a steady flow of  people joining.

Rather than continuing to post the roster here, how do we feel about everybody going and registering on the guild’s web page?  You can see those who have registered here.  The web page has forums and everything that would allow those who need to remain anonymous to participate freely.

Anyway, one of the things we’re discussing is having some officers be in charge of a team that organizes RP events.  So let’s talk RP today.

I love RP!  And Guild Wars 2 makes it so easy to do.  I’m the type that will walk while in cities and who takes a fair amount of time on making my in-town clothes look unique to the character.

Most of what I’m thinking about for my noble is whether he will be a grizzled war vet or a green-as-hell recruit.  He could be a retired soldier who now makes his way as a blacksmith and has gotten recruited into the local militia on account of the centaur attacks.

Do we want a building that would serve as the guild’s RP headquarters?  We could take something central like The Lion’s Shadow Inn or the Crow’s Nest Tavern in Lion’s Arch, or we could go with something like the Maiden’s Whisper or the Busted Flagon in Divinity’s Reach.

For those of you Godless folks planning to do RP, what will your story be?  Have you learned about the lore of GW2?  What are your ideas for making RP a fun thing to do in Godless?

Are there similar groups on other MMORPGs? Fantasy isn’t really my thing and I’m already playing one game (only really have time for one game). I’m at the point where I wouldn’t mind switching groups if there’s one better suited to me.

So far Godless is focused on getting our structure for GW2 in place, and we don’t have any sort of formal involvement with other games. That said, it may happen at some point in the future, even as just an informal grouping in other games. So far, there has been some talk of a Steam group (Godless and several permutations were already taken, but I grabbed Godless Guild for our use), though I’ve been busy with Real Life stuff this weekend and haven’t spent much time on guild work.

Feel free to see what’s going on in the Video Games section of our forum; I don’t think you need to be a member to read it. If people are setting up groups for other games, the info should be there. http://godless.guildlaunch.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=1880532

I’m not really a RPer. I don’t care if other people do it, enjoy the game however you want :) Just as long as I’m not expected to. I assume that won’t be a problem with this guild, we seem to be a decent sized group, I’m sure there’s room for all types.

I definitely like roleplay. I’d rather build a character that seems like an interesting character and makes sense to it than just have the most efficient combination of skills and powers.
But I wouldn’t know how to go about it on an MMO. (In my limited experience the RP part of MMORPG is rarely an accurate addition.) I’m used to text-based games, or just sitting around a table.

Sweet the videos I posted to our facebook are here, fantastic!
For anyone interested the order is; The World, The Fall of Ascalon, The Characters then The Chosen. Mr Sparkles isn’t part of the GW1 summary series but you should definitely watch it too.

Hey cool, thanks for the videos, those are helpful.

I’m thinking my first character will be an asura mesmer, who made a living as a con man. After conning the wrong norn, he got the snot beat out of him in a thrashing that left him with several broken bones, robbed blind, and chucked in a river. After this traumatizing and lifechanging event, the asura decided to stop conning people (mostly), but developed an obsession with proving mind over might by fighting things bigger than himself. The bigger the foe, the more he wants to beat it.

That’s a start, anyway. Not too terribly original, but I’m sure I’ll flesh it out later. I don’t play MMOs, though, so I’m not sure how/if this RP will actually change how I play.

For anyone reading this and getting worried, Godless is not a RP guild. We just happen to have some members interested in doing some RP, and will do what we can to support and encourage that.

Don’t let JT scare you off with his wizard hat and robe.

I would go with lions gate, since it has access to everywhere. either that, or just go with somewhere in the city of the elves or something

    • Daniel Schealler

      City of the elves?

Do you mean the Grove, or did I miss something?
      :P

RP is something that I like from time to time in small doses.

I’d also recommend Lion’s Arch as a good central point.

And what’s this about your noble? Last I checked you were going to be an asuran of some stripe?

I’m still not too sure about where my Charr will fit in. Need to do some more research about the history of the world. I’m pretty sure he’ll not like humans very much though. :P

I recently finished Destiny’s Edge and Ghosts of Ascalon.

Verdict: Useful as a primer to the world and lore for game fans.

As standalone fantasy novels they were readable, but didn’t catch the imagination. A bit too formulaic. Would have left me feeling ‘meh’ if it wasn’t for the appeal of the game’s lore.

I’d recomennd the books to anyone who wants some familiarity with the setting for the purpose of in-game RP. So long as you don’t expect to be blown away you’ll be fine.
