I've seen the face of god

Saw this and lol’d.

If god wants a relationship with anyone, why is it infinitely more easy to see the face of Robert Downey Jr. than god’s?  God clearly prioritizes our belief in Downey Jr. over belief in him.

Resolution: God has multiple faces and the verses are talking about different faces.

    • justsomeguy

But if humans were created in his image, then shouldn’t we also have multiple faces?

      • anteprepro

What part of SOPHISTICATED THEOLOGY don’t you understand?

“Created in his image” was just a metaphor. For something. But Multi-faced God Himself? Literal as fuck.

Alternatively: Theistic evolution removed our extra faces after The Fall! There’s no proof of that happening because God can do anything and we don’t need proof to believe things!

Can someone get the nearest Bible college to mail me a PhD now?

    Therefore Iron Man?

Well belief in Robert Downey Jr. at least might get you a few decent movies…

Sam Harris had a slide at a talk (I forget which one, it was on youtube and about 4am, it may have been a hallucination for all I know) that had a red line joining two verses that had overt contradiction. It laid the bible out in a line; the rest of the slide was giant red rainbow of lines covering pretty much the whole thing.

What ever else the bible is (I usually go with bad fiction), it’s not consistent.

  • grumpyoldfart

In the Old Testament days you couldn’t see god because he dwelt “in the thick darkness.” (1 Kings 8:12)

In the New Testament it is said you can’t see god because he dwells “in the light which no man can approach unto.” (1 Timothy 6:16)

No wonder we can’t see him. He’s flip-flopping all over the place!

On day 8 Yahweh created the Clapper.

You guys are being too literal. Clearly “I have seen the face if God” means “KILL ALL THE GAYS.”

Because Robert Downey Jr. will build a robot suit and fly THROUGH YOU.

  • Looked up the verses

If you read the chapter in genesis where this verse is written, it shares a story where Jacob wrestled with an angel who then gives Jacob a message from god. He then tells his family that he has seen the face of god as a metaphor for being told the will of god.

In this context, there is not really a contradiction. Regardless of the bible’s fiction, it should still be understood in context with in it’s stories.

    • anteprepro

Cool story, bro. If you read the actual passage, no matter what translation, the divine creature Jacob wrestles with is described as “a man”. Not an angel. And it is implied to be God after the fact. Never mentions an angel.

      Nice try though.
