So there’s this Twitter hashtag trending right now: #ToMyFutureKids.

Also trending: more examples of homphobia.

    A while back my parents found some documents written by one of my ancestors from around 1830 in the family house and even though they were mostly just business related, they were pretty interesting to us because they provided a link pretty far in the past. I can imagine in 100 years, if all this data survives that long, anyone will be able to read what their grandparents or great-grandparents thought and said about various things. Whenever I see examples of flagrant bigotry on the internet I always think, imagine what you would think of your great-grandparents if you found out they were slave-owners or something and were able to read their really racists thoughts of the time, that could be all you really know about them. Chances are we are going to be one of the most researched generations of all time, simply because we will be the first to generate this huge amount of easily accessible data from normal people, and the most interesting thing about you in 100 years is your bigotry.

      One of my grandfathers was frequently publicly vocally racist and entirely unapologetic about the matter. Quite a lot of people thought he was an asshole, and they were mostly right.

      As a child, I loved my Papa, but felt sorry for him that he hated people so loudly that people hated him! Even as a grown man, I look back on my grandfather and his views and actions driven by those views with a mixture of pity and contempt.

      I expect this is how some of the current generation is going to be viewed by their future children/grandchildren.

    So much worthless hate and prejudgment. There is a very real chance that once they meet their future offspring, they’ll love them for who they are. Flagging themselves now will make them that less happy later when they have to reconcile their feelings.

    otoh, they may now feel the need to be intellectually consistent and we can expect increased child abuse while they work to ensure their kids meet their skewed expectations.

    Either way, it’s a horrific tag.

    It seems to me that publicly announcing plans to beat your children should be reason enough for forced sterilization. This should count as a premeditated crime.
