Google reader donations.

In response to my post asking google reader users to click through to the site, several of you emailed me (or commented) to say you’d rather just make a donation to the site each month than take the time to click through.

I’ll dun people for money repeatedly for a charitable cause, but I don’t like asking for money for my livelihood.  However, I got so many of those requests and it seemed fair, so I set up a donation widget on the side of the page.  This is not for any other type of donation.  It’s just for people who want to support me but who don’t want to have to take the time to click all the way through to the blog.

    A suggestion:

I have been following Friendly Atheist for several years in Google Reader, only clicking through when I wanted to comment or read comments. Then I started hanging out on Twitter all day. I guess I now read 80% of his columns by clicking through from Twitter, as I just clicked through to this column. (I still follow him in Google Reader, because I don’t want to miss something he posted when I was offline.)

However, it was not clear from your tweet that this was a link to a column. Also, it was not immediately apparent who you were. I urge you to take a look at people who are doing what you are trying to do, especially Hemant’s Friendly Atheist, Joe Gervis’s JoeMyGod, Greta Christina, and so forth. Notice how their Twitter avatars are close-up images of their faces? Either pick an iconic image that represents you (the graphic in your header comes to mind) or use your real face. Brand yourself.

I’m a google reader user. I just tried to use the paypal button but I got the following error message: “Some required information is missing or incomplete. Please correct your entries and try again.” I hadn’t entered anything. I just hit the button and got this message. I logged into paypal and tried again, but got the same message.
