The flattery of my heroes. :)

It boggles my mind each time I learn that someone I admire reads my blog.  One instance is Rebecca Hensler, who is the founder of Grief Beyond Belief.  Not only does she read, but recently she canonized a quote from one of my posts in meme form.

I win at life.  :)

POLITICS: Boehner calls Obama an “anti-war President.”
PERSONAL: The beauty of paying it forward.
CHARITY: Humanist family’s 10 year old daughter has a brain tumor. Let’s help with expenses.
PERSONAL: My wife holding a brain.
About JT Eberhard

I almost get personally insulted when someone uses the “science takes just as much faith as religion,” when I have helped make defense systems on planes that automatically detect missiles and destroys them with lasers, to CT scanners that make 3D images of your brain.

But then I feel bad for the person that thinks the marvelous device in their pocket that allows instant communication and many other wonders works in the same manner as incense and incantations over chicken entrails, and at that point I just want to calmly explain to them how science works.

It’s not nearly as pithy as the meme but we also have other countries to use as examples of what life is like with out science (either lack of will or resources). They are not nice places. Neil DeGrasse Tyson makes a similar point, here.
