Arkansas politician seeks the death penalty for unruly children.

I think I get it: Charles Davidson and Charlie Fuqua are trying to make Romney appear more moderate.  That’s the only imaginable excuse for something like this.

Charlie Fuqua, the Republican candidate for the Arkansas House of Representatives who called for expelling Muslims from the United States in his book, also wrote in support for instituting the death penalty for “rebellious children.”

In “God’s Law,” Fuqua’s 2012 book, the candidate wrote that while parents love their children, a process could be set up to allow for the institution of the death penalty for “rebellious children,” according to the Arkansas Times. Fuqua, who is anti-abortion, points out that the course of action involved in sentencing a child to death is described in the Bible and would involve judicial approval. While it is unlikely that many parents would seek to have their children killed by the government, Fuqua wrote, such power would serve as a way to stop rebellious children.

I forgot about religion, so I guess there are two ways something this horrid could be explained.

About JT Eberhard

When not defending the planet from inevitable apocalypse at the rotting hands of the undead, JT is a writer and public speaker about atheism, gay rights, and more. He spent two and a half years with the Secular Student Alliance as their first high school organizer. During that time he built the SSA’s high school program and oversaw the development of groups nationwide. JT is also the co-founder of the popular Skepticon conference and served as the events lead organizer during its first three years.

I’m pretty sure the guy’s name is Fuquad.

    • Drakk

I was actually wondering if his name was pronounced “Fucker”

      • Joe

I have problems with the idea of this guy fucking. Fucking leads to children, and I rather hope he doesn’t have any.

    • SuperMental

I’m very certain that is how it’s pronounced anyway. Oh and the “Fundamentalist Asshole” is silent.

In case any less benighted Christian should turn up here with a “no true Scotsman” defense of his/her sacred beliefs, let me repeat Matt Dillahunty’s famous tweet from a few months ago:

“Dear liberal, enlightened Christian: I’m not lumping you in with fundies – you are. Get a new name and new holy book to selectively cite.”

    • Zinc Avenger (Sarcasm Tags 3.0 Compliant)

My problem is when they tell us how wrong this interpretation is. Take it up with the people dragging the religion through the mud, not those of us who are pointing out the mud they’re splattered with.

  • TerranRich

The same party who wants to get government out of everything… seem to spawn people like this, who want government to interfere with marriage, women’s reproductive rights… and now who the government can kill. What a joke.

    • Stogoe

They don’t actually want government out of everything. What they want is a government that works exclusively for the benefit of a) fundamentalist Christians and b) global corporate conglomerates. Everybody else has as much moral consideration to them as a pile of rotting garbage.

It’s tempting to conclude from this pair of stories that there is something very wrong in Arkansas. These two men managed to get somewhere without enough blowback to think these positions are bad ideas? Alternatively, they view their fellow Arkansans as supporting these views to the degree that they can ride them to re-election? I don’t think we’re talking about n = 2.

    • Nick

Charles Davidson was a state senator in Alabama.

    • DJE

Normally such candidates do not say this kind of crap out loud while they are campaigning. And, in many parts of the state local news coverage is disgustingly amatuerish – so we watch CNN, C-Span, Fox (*shudder), or network affiliates from St. Louis or Memphis. This means most of us may not get much, if any, exposure to our local politicians. A handshake if they are local enough for the door – to – door treatment. (Greene County man Jerry Shipman did this 2 years ago – and handed out campaign materials with egregious misspellings. I voted against him. He’s up for re-election this year.) Or you may hear them speak for 10 minutes at a local meeting of the Republican or Democratic Pary. Or they may show up at a political rally / barbecue. But the craziest shit they say? Yeah, they save all of that for the floor of the state house and senate, or for Quorum court meetings. Not for the general public. Censorship at the source, the most pure form of spreading misinformation.

I always think your titles are pure link bait simply because I don’t want to believe that they could possibly be true…..

Really tempted to call Poe’s law on this.

  • advent-gred

so, that website has to be satire? like the onion? right?

  • edwin

another religious nutjob , against abortion but fine with killing children after birth. (no surprise there.)

    • Liberated Liberal

And it’s these religious nutjobs screaming that if we are ok with abortion, what’s stopping us from killing children!??
Shockingly, I have no desire to kill children. Can’t imagine why.

I can’t believe this is real!

  • ResearchToBeDone

In fairness to him, I’m sure he’d make exceptions to his pro-life stance for particularly unruly fetuses.

  • mary

these two i can’t call them men need to shut the … up if this person fuquar wants this death pen. for unrule children then maybe just maybe his children should be the first to test it out along with this other dimwited moron davidson. i’m pretty sure that they themselves didn’t always do as they where told ,and did things that they themselves shouldn’t have done when they where young children you need to i don’t know let’s see think before you both open your traps and spout garbage out of them or even write a book that should be shredded. You things are not god or the ones to be trying to do his job, if this is what you truely think should be done to children then , i think that you where your selves a p…. poor fathers to your on children and that they must have done a lot of rebelling against you both when they where young ones . to want to punish other children for being rebellus is not for you to decide it is the courts, families , policeto do . as for me you both need to back up and back off the children they are only children and we are here to teach them not to kill them because they rebell, or becaome unrulely (this last one could be because they are mentaly unstable in someway ) here is where you both begin to sound and want to act like Hitler in this respect . this is how i feel about you statement this is how s… gets started by shotting of your mouths my a…over runnsssss as does your guys.

  • Drakk

Dammit, where are all the underdeveloped troglodytes (Mark, Ryan Baines, Ted Seeber et al.) when you want them. I really want to see how they defend this part of their precious buybull.
