New Romney strategy seems to be working

Recent interviews with Romney during one of this flights between events, he details the new methods he’s using to reach voters:

For weeks many Beltway insiders had written off the Romney campaign as dead, saying the candidate had dug himself into too deep a hole with too little time to recover. However, with a month to go before ballots are cast, Romney has pulled even with President Obama, and the former Massachusetts governor credits his rejuvenated campaign to one, singular tactic: lying a lot.

“I’m lying a lot more, and my lies are far more egregious than they’ve ever been,” a smiling Romney told reporters while sitting in the back of his campaign bus, adding that when faced with a choice to either lie or tell the truth, he will more than likely lie. “It’s a strategy that works because when I lie, I’m essentially telling people what they want to hear, and people really like hearing things they want to hear. Even if they sort of know that nothing I’m saying is true.”

I don’t appreciate the way this was presented. You should have mentioned up front that this was an Onion article. The way you said “Recent interviews with Romney during one of this flights between events, he details the new methods he’s using to reach voters” made me assume it was a real interview. While I agree that this is his strategy, and you make a good point about the truth in the humor of The Onion, there’s a big difference between pointing out that this is what he’s doing, and claiming that he has admitted it.

Wah! I don’t like being made to read the article to understand the content either! Shame on on you, JT!

Was that additional intentional irony to mock the first comment, or did you actually miss that DrB posted this? If it’s the second, I recommend claiming the first anyway, as no one will know. :-P

          Oh goddamnit! Guilty as charged.

Poe-trolling the blog readers. Nice. :-)

Romney is a poe. It’s difficult to accurately represent his views since the ‘official’ ones are all over the map. What’s also been happening is that the press gets ‘clarifications’ on what Romney says on film and live. These clarifications tell the news media that the actual words he used are not to be taken as factual statements of his position. The media largely goes along with this and doesn’t point out his endless lies are just that.

I’d laugh at this more if I had more faith in American voters. As it is I kind of want to vote early and then do my best to ignore the election until it’s over.
