Michaelyn’s face as she got engaged.

The video of my entire Skepticon 5 talk will go up eventually.  However, one of the people with Camp Quest Oklahoma was there and managed to have a camera on Michaelyn while I was doing my proposing.  He sent me that video.  :)

Here’s how it went down.  I had given roses to some of the audience members who Michaelyn really loves, people like Jessica Ahlquist, Jen McCreight, Matt Dillahunty, David Fitzgerald, etc.  The last argument I touched on was “You don’t have evidence for love, but you believe it exists, so why not god?”  After knocking down that softball, I started a slide show of pictures of the two of us and talked about all the evidences for love I’ve found with Michaelyn.  During that time, the flowers were delivered one by one to Michaelyn, who was flanked by her mother and my mother.

You can’t see, but I didn’t cry at all.  Not a bit.  Nope.

This movement has gotten to watch me grow up.  I’m very happy I got to share such an important moment of my life with everybody in it.

And that certainly didn’t make me cry watching it. Not even close. Nuh-uh.

I teared up as well. That’s really special to propose in such a thoughtful way and in front of that HUGE room full of people.

That would have been really awkward if she said no.

I cried when I saw it happen live. I cried again when I saw the post about her ring. And, dammit, I just cried AGAIN.
Many hugs to you both, and may you enjoy many happy years together!

  • Matt Dillahunty

So glad to have been a part of this. Beth has another video from a different angle, hopefully we’ll be able to get that posted, as well. Then we can all cry again. :)

That is gorgeous. Congrats again, JT. I hope I can think/stage a proposal as badass for the woman I love someday.

I’ll admit that that had me bawling like a baby. A happy, happy baby.

After the week we’ve had ’round these parts of the world, happy crying is good.
