Craziest Republican legislation of 2012.

ThinkProgress just put out the eponymous list for this post.  There’s some impressive lunacy in there, but my favorites are #4 and #5: defining life at conception followed immediately by legalizing shooting at police officers.

Keith Lowell Jensen couldn’t even write material like that.

About JT Eberhard

When not defending the planet from inevitable apocalypse at the rotting hands of the undead, JT is a writer and public speaker about atheism, gay rights, and more. He spent two and a half years with the Secular Student Alliance as their first high school organizer. During that time he built the SSA’s high school program and oversaw the development of groups nationwide. JT is also the co-founder of the popular Skepticon conference and served as the events lead organizer during its first three years.

#4 confuses me. Doctors always date pregnancy from the last menstrual period. This isn’t a new idea or something republicans came up. Am I missing something?

    • Anat

Not in the case of women like me, who have irregular periods. In cases like mine the pregnancy is dated based on a first trimester sonogram. What would have been an 11 week pregnancy based on LMP turned out to have been 9 weeks based on embryo size. So if I were considering abortion such a law would have narrowed my window by 2 weeks.

Well obviously you support #5, due to you unconditional support for individual gun ownership.
#5 is the logical extension of the defense of liberties that gun ownership allows.

Although it will probably work out to be as unmanageable as the ‘stand your ground’ laws, in general, someone holding a badge cant just violate the law in ways that the regular citizens cant. Officers should always be acting in accordance with the law.

These laws wont allow people to shoot innocent cops, it allows them to defend their civil liberties, something everyone should be able to get behind.

So you imagine people would never shoot at innocent cops? You have a lot of confidence in the human ability to tell the difference between “I find this person annoying” and “Ths person is breaking the law”

I have to admit, reading the internet in the morning can do some crazy things to your head. I read the title as “Czarist Republican Legislation of 2012″. I’m not so sure it would be all that inaccurate.

You have to go to the State level and then take a gander at the happenings in Arizona to get the real crazy. That place is batshit crazy.

The law of the land is bent into some truly outlandish shapes by narrow interests with disproportionate power.
