Meming it up.

While I was in Las Vegas, I posed for Mallorie Nasrallah‘s Faces collection.  Essentially I sat in her studio and made silly faces for her.  Today, she sent me the one she chose for the series.

Me making a grumpy face.

So I posted it to facebook…and then this started happening.

Grumpy cat impersonates JT

Every time you see this face another god dies.

Unimpressed with your shenanigans

This shiz cracks me up.  If you do one, send it along.

Also, Mallorie is responsible for a lot of the science pictures you see online.  Be sure to check those out.  :)

Also, this apparently exists. It can make your life easier.

About JT Eberhard

When not defending the planet from inevitable apocalypse at the rotting hands of the undead, JT is a writer and public speaker about atheism, gay rights, and more. He spent two and a half years with the Secular Student Alliance as their first high school organizer. During that time he built the SSA’s high school program and oversaw the development of groups nationwide. JT is also the co-founder of the popular Skepticon conference and served as the events lead organizer during its first three years.

I thought it was a picture of you being forced to listen to Gospel Music.

  • Keith Lowell Jensen

How awesome is Mallorie that the minute I saw that pic I thought “Damn, that looks like one her’s”.
    She rocks.

  • Reginald Selkirk

    Good lighting.

  • baal

Wait, that’s JT? I watched you (via the intertubes) sing opera in that tag team debate you did with Matt Dillahunty and never saw anything like this.

Meme Generator is cheating. Fire up GIMP and do it the old fashioned way!

  • John Horstman

Mallorie Nasrallah is apparently a talented photographer, but unless she’s decided to stop playing apologetics for misogynist serial-harassers and libertarian fuckwits, I really wouldn’t want anything to do with her.

  • earl

Is funny, if you actually red what she wrote, rather than someone’s self serving interpretation of what she wrote, you’d be hard pressed to find where she actually acts as an apologist for misogynists, or serial harassers.

Here is the original post for those of you interested in inquiry or intellectual honesty.

  • Mallorie Nasrallah

Let my photography be my photography, its my full-time job, and its what I am best suited to contribute to our community.
John, you clearly agree. If I fail terribly at writing or expressing personal opinions, that’s OK. Just please let this work alone.

  • Heidi

I remember that post. I have all kinda of disagreements with it, but Mallorie’s photography ought to be judged on its own merits. I like the photo, JT. :) That must have been really fun.

  • Adam Lee

I agree with John: great photo, but I’m not so enamored with the photographer, or anyone else who argues that there’s no problem of sexism in the skeptical community and no one needs to change anything about their behavior to make more women feel welcome.

    • Richard

I’ve read through the blog posts, and her post. While in her community, probably her local sample of the skeptic community, it appears from the context of her post she has not experienced what has everyone so in arms over sexual harassment in the overall community. Breaking news for all of you: “Woman not harassed in her atheist community: this is a great thing!”

The letter read like she was addressing her friends, her slice of the community, and I’m fine with that. It did not read to me that she was denying that there is a problem in the global community, or in other local communities… rather it is very easy in the age of the internet to assume everything everyone talks about is referring to everyone, to take things very personally and get very out of hand. JT’s stance has repeatedly been on the pro feminism side, and if she really was some sort of monster that eats female rights for breakfast: would JT be friends with her?

Also, going around posting harassing sounding blog posts… harassing a woman in the community…. because she hasn’t had a problem with being harassed. I mean, what the fuck is wrong with you people. Want some public shaming? There we go, you should feel bad about yourselves for acting like assholes.

Use logic here: most of you come here and read JT’s posts, and probably enjoy his humor. I figure he has decent taste in friends, given his previous choices. Take a step back, enjoy the fucking hilarious picture.

Adam , I’d be more sympathetic with your post if you (and lousy canuck for that matter) could repeat Mallorie Nasrallah’s position without larding it up with invective and mis-characterizations. In other circles, it’s considered wrongful to meld your conclusions into the statement of what the problem is. Stated differently, I had to go read what she wrote to find out what the problem might be. Your excerpts and framing do not fairly summarize and your entire argument’s validity is dismissible on that basis.

Regardless, it’s somewhat distasteful to try to undercut her profession for your personal biases against her views (which are at worst moderate). She is entitled to better treatment than that. Save your ‘war at all costs’ mentality for the Rush Limbaughs or daily parade of rightwing nut jobs who do actual bad stuff or even actual enablers of misogyny.

    Speaking of enjoying that picture.
Wife says in reaction to photo : “Looks like Glenn Beck” Figure that with “not amused by comparison” would be a good tagline.

    • Richard

Bah, forgot to put my name to this post, sorry.

  • Capt Dingleberry

Not sure how to send it to you but here is a link to my take on your Meme. Enjoy ;-))

  • David Hart

Meh. I own a purple velvet jacket and a top hat. I don’t meme generators – I can be Condescending Wonka whenever I want.

    • David Hart

*need* meme generators. Why in the world isn’t there an edit option on Patheos? It’s almost as if a vengeful deity were mocking us.
