Show declares it can heal people over the airwaves.

A television program in the UK titled The Miracle Hour is telling people they are cured of illness, only by touching the television (or their own leg)!

Bishop Simon told him to lay his hand on his leg and said: “I cause diabetes to die in your body.

“I lose you and declare you set free from the power of diabetes.

“Thank you heavenly father for this miracle right now over your life in Jesus’s name.”

Bode was then asked to repeat the words “it is well with me”.

Mr Kaikumba said: “The clip is worrying. Bishop Simon claims to have removed the illness from the caller, insinuating he has been cured.”

“The pastor should have recommended the caller sought medical help.”

He’s right, of course.  This is another example of faith doing real harm to people.  We’re often told we shouldn’t take away believers’ hope.  However, when hope becomes synonymous with delusion, the hope is empty.  It’s believing the problem is gone which prevents us from actually doing anything about it.  If you’re putting faith in god instead of in yourself or other humans, you’re eschewing the source of every solution to humanity’s troubles throughout the ages for the author of every single one of those problems.  You’ll trust god, and then trust him later even as the mortal doctors have to rush to mend the product of your negligence.

Many Christians will declare this show ludicrous.  People who believe a Canaanite Jew rose from the dead and walked on water will be baffled how anybody could think touching the TV could cure diabetes.  Somehow the irony won’t suffocate them.  Hell, it won’t even create cognitive dissonance, I’ll bet.
